My father is an awesome realtor. He specializes in North Arlington, right next door, but has a lot of Falls Church experience too. He also has lots of experience with first-time buyers (including us, many years ago!). Richard Ganleyhttp://www.richardganley.com/

[McEnearney & Associates](http://www.mcenearney.com/) in Arlington. Do you have a house to sell?

Check with your lender/bank/credit union, and see if they have some sort of referral program. We were referred a pair of agents (http://www.housesbyus.com/) that we loved by Navy Federal, PLUS we got a few thousand back at closing from Navy Fed, even though we financed through Wells Fargo.

I used [Kathy Dipp](http://www.century21.com/real-estate-agent/profile/kathy-dipp-10934594). She's friendly, knowledgeable about the area, great with first time homebuyers, and bilingual (English/Spanish) which is somewhat needed in this area.

I've sold hundreds of homes. Here is my website http://www.myhousefairfax.com/ I don't like to give any kind of sales pitch on reddit. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. I also have a website with free real estate reports. http://www.myhousenova.com/default.asp I use it to capture leads but the info is good. Best of luck to you buying a house is a lot of fun

I have a friend who recently used [redfin](http://www.redfin.com) to buy his first home. He said he liked the experience. Has anyone else had similar or contrasting experiences?

I used Clare Loxtercamp when I bought my house a few years ago: http://clare.premiervirginia.com/. She's wonderful with first time buyers, and did a great job of finding and showing us houses that fit our budget and had the features we were looking for.

Rob Fergusonhttp://www.fergusonrealestateonline.com/our_team.html was awesome when we bought our first home a few years ago. I can recommend him (and his team) without reservation.

http://nancyjo.lnf.com/ Nancy Jo has been selling houses in the area since '84 -- can't recommend her enough. Bought two houses with her, sold one, and she helped me find our first apartment. Really knows her stuff and saved us a number of times from making bad decisions.

Don Weaver at Weichert in Annandale, though he works in FC and McLean, too. He actually took me to a lender with a better rate when the Weichert broker was stiffing me. He knows all the other agents in town and they all want to keep him happy. He even kicked back a point off his commission to me, but that may have been a special deal just for me as he was also the landlord at our prior rented home. Oh, and every year he sends us free movie tix and a White House Xmas ornament.
Our house in Falls Church is on the market so we came move to Philly. We had no idea who to select as a real estate agent. We now know. DJO 69's very own Helen Spence...
