JOI - they have helped with me with a broken hip and with lower back problems. Specialists for every type of problem. Very efficient - you don't have to wait around for a long time to see your doc, etc. They were recommended by my LOCAL doc when I broke my hip. http://jacksonvilleorthopaedics.net/?_vsrefdom=p.3356

The very best is Dr David Heekin in Jacksonville. I have heard nothing but good things and he is nationally recognized. Other doctors here in town provide referrals and also see him as well. I have seen him for over the last 10 years after several years of poor support from Dr Smith. I am quite pleased with Dr Heekin.

I personally didn't like Dr. Greg Smith. He rushes you in and out, doesn't give you a chance to ask any questions.
Bonnie M. replied:
Dr. Smith rebuilt my knee back in 1999 as I had shattered it and had hand surgery back in 2010 and no problems with either since! Good Luck!
Charles G. replied:
I had two good experiences with Dr. Smith (knee and shoulder) I thought my athletic life was over when I hurt my shoulder, but I'm playing racquetball as strong as ever now without any pain! No need to go to Jacksonville unless you need a replacement.

Diane M. replied:
Depending on what you need checked on, Dr. Kaye at UF Health is ahhhhmazing! I had a broken ulna that I had to get plate a screws for, Dr. Smith did the original surgery which I heard good things about him, I just didn't get a good vibe from him from the get go. I had constant pain a year and a half after the surgery, you could see one of the screws just by looking at my arm. Not to mention I couldn't put my arm down on that side due to hitting the screw and causing a bruise. Also had numbness that never went away after the surgery. I personally didn't care for Dr. Smiths bedside manner nor his concern of the issues I was having. His staff is great though! Dr. Kaye did all kinds of tests and with the X-ray showing 3 of the 4 screws actually sticking out past the bone, he recommended I remove it due to pain. The absolute day after my surgery, I had almost all feeling back! One of the screws was hitting my ulna nerve causing the numbness and pain. Dr. Kaye's bedside manner was extraordinary, he called the night before and after my surgery to check on me. But like I said, I've heard good things about Dr. Smith but I personally didn't not care for him as a doctor.
Does anyone have any reviews of Dr. Gregory Smith the Orthopedic doctor? Thanks

Tracey W. replied:
I have been very happy with Dr. Gregory Smith. There are several here that aren't fans but he's done surgery on both of my knees with great results. He also now has a female surgeon (who I believe is doing replacements, I believe)
Brenda P. replied:
Dr Manthe did replacement on my knee four weeks ago
Debbie B. replied:
Dr Manthe specIalizes in knee and hip replacment. I had a total knee replacement performed by her last November. I believe Dr Smith is geared more to sport related injuries.
Betty S. replied:
I had a broken arm (humerus) in 2010. I saw Dr Smith and he said it's a 50/50 chance that it would heal on its own. I had a splint, then an orthopedic brace, went to physical therapy and had multiple x rays taken over 6 months. This was all at my own expense as I had no healrh insurance. A few months later I went back to him because I had a hard lump in my arm and wasn't gaining any strength. I had yet another x-ray and he informed me that my arm was still broken and I would need to go to a specialist and have a rod put in my arm. Not once during my multiple visits did he tell me that it didn't appear to be healing correctly. I felt that I may have received subpar treatment because I was a self pay.
Anyone have a recommendation for a good orthopedic specialist on the island? I have a torn meniscus in my knee that needs to get fixed. Thanks.
Marla K. replied:
I went to Greg Smith for a neck/shoulder issue. I liked him but I know a lot of people don't though I'm not sure why. He was very cordial, thorough and actually diagnosed where others hadn't.
Elaine W. replied:
Dr. Megan Mathea
Charles G. replied:
Dr. Smith repaired my torn meniscus and I was back playing racquetball in six weeks. Good experience with him.
In search of orthopedic surgeon for an ankle injury. I have narrowed down the search but like to hear from real patients and their experiences with drs.
Sheila C. replied:
Dr David Heekin has a renown reputation. He did both my knee replacements and I couldn't be happier. The only negative is he is at St Vincent's hospital, but to me, it's worth it.
Glendette H. replied:
