Hi Beth . . . Cousin Elaine here. I don't mean to be rude or nosey, but I've read several comments that refer to you're having some health issues . . . is there anything that I can do for you or help you with, on a person level? I'm not exactly sure where y'all live, but somewhere along the line, I got the feeling it's in JC or there abouts. We're either in Dripping Springs or Fredericksburg, or wherever you need me to be. I'm available to babysit, run errands, take you to your doctor appointments, pick up prescriptions, or just about whatever you're needing. I am not asking for, nor will I accept any money for any of this . . . we're family now and I just want to help you if I can. Period. I don't work, so I'm also pretty flexible for any time of day or night. I realize that although we're cousins now, you don't know much about me, but you can either ask any of the aunts, or relatives, or I can even furnish you with some references, etc . . . whatever makes you feel more comfortable . . . and it wouldn't offend me one bit for you to ask, especially if it's something personal like babysitting, or driving you to your doctor's appointment. Or maybe you need a place to spend the night for a doctor's appointment early the next day, etc . . .that would be okay too . . . either in Dripping Springs, or Fredericksburg. My home phone # is (512) 858-7225, or cell phone # is (512) 426-1229, or hubby Johnnie's cell phone # is (512) 426-1228. Or if you want to communicate more confidentually than here on FaceBook, my email address is . . . ehw1229 dstx@aol.com. I realize your last request was for Fort Worth information . . . I'm sorry but I can't help with that as I know absolutely nothing about Fort Worth. Johnnie's got a cousin living there that we could call, but otherwise we don't know nothing medical about FW. Holler at me for whatever I can do to help you with! I love & appreciate you dear cousin. BIG Hugs . . . Elaine

My first visits with Dr. Shea I was against treating Gus. Wanted to try a natural path. Dr. Shea looked me straight in the eye and basically said if I don't treat him he could have mental retardation.

OK...I went to Dr. Heidi Shea. Her and her staff were we're not friendly at all. She spoke a lot of untruths to me. The second time I went to her office they took his blood. I explained to them that his veins are too small to take from his arms and wi ll have to darken the room and use a light under his hand. They insisted on doing it through the arm. Well, as they were going in and out with the needle in my sons arms...both of them...they blew his veins in both arms. He was screaming bloody murder and I told them to stop. They told me they were not hurting him and if I had a problem they would send me out of the room. They finally got it in his head. His little arms were so bruised. He wasn't even a year old. After all that Dr. Shea flat out told me that his results would be high. I asked her how she would know that....because he has DS. It took forever to get those results. 2 weeks? His TSH was high...6.7 I think? It had never been that high. I decided to go back to Childrens. I've been seeing Dr. Ham for over a year now. His thyroid levels have been perfect. His TSH is always in the 2 to 3 range. Sorry for the long post....it's just my experience with Dr. Heidi Shea was horrible. She also has some really bad reviews and I believe some complaints filed.
Amanda D. replied:
My personal opinion is that the Dr.'s at Childrens Hospital have always been good. Dr. Ham is who I have now. I had Dr. Stuart also. They have both been very kind. Dr. Ham is very good at answering questions and my fears. She leans toward treating a ch ild with higher TSH levels but she watches them very closely. I remember she also told me that she wants to get to the bottom of why they might be high. That would include some more extensive blood tests. Children's has been great at taking Sammy's blood. When I go into the lab I just tell them the situation and they get a specialist in and take his blood. I'm in and I'm out.

Marissa M. replied:
Thank you everyone! Dr. Wilson at Cook's today made it sound like my son should not be able to even have thyroid therapy as an option which is against what the American Academy of Pediatrics says. He basically said that although not doing therapy Won't have adverse affects (which is mental retardation if thyroid goes untreated) because he already has Down syndrome. I was angry.
Asking for recommendations . . . anyone love their endocrinologist? Would prefer Hospital District but definitely want Fort Worth. Please and thank you in advance.
