I have always taken my cats to South Boulder Animal Hospital. They’ve always been fantastic with my cats

Uniquely Cats was really good with my cat the one time we brought him in there. They do push the raw food diet pretty hard. We did switch out our food after bringing him in and he's lost 3-4 pounds and is much healthier.

Alpine hospital for animals is our go-to for our two cats. Super friendly and helpful staff and doctors!

Hey - question, did you move here recently? I had the same issue with my cat after we moved here because of the dryness, just wondering if it might be the same issue :)

We got the lecture at Uniquely Cats too that some have referred to! Spent $200 in raw foods to get delivered (would have lastet a long time). But unfortunately could not make either cat go for it. Maybe didn't try hard enough. I do believe that it is the best diet for them, but I agree that the lecture was a bit obnoxious. And they do make you feel bad about your previous choices of food.
That being said, if either had something serious we would still take them there because they really do know cats. But until then for the regular stuff we call Dr. Bob Irmiger. He is one of several good vets that will come to your home which is easier on everyone. Another great option that at times is better because they don't seem to want to run every test known to man/cat, is the CSU Veterinary Clinic in Fort Collins. One of the best in the country.

Not Boulder, but we've been happy enough with Cheshire Cat Hospital in far north Westminster. https://www.cheshirecathospital.com/

We've been really happy with Boulder's Natural Animal Hospital and have been taking our little ball of cat fur there for about 5 years. Sorry to hear about your kitty's problems, hopefully they are solved soon!

Louisville Veterinary Clinic! Dr Bender is the best

We've brought our cats North Boulder Animal Companion for 20 years. Shelle Raines has done amazing things for our 20 year old. He wasn't doing so well two years ago. She changed the treatment method to a multimodal approach and he's been a new cat Gained weight, eyes cleared up, happier, follows me around begging for treats!

Louisville Family Animal Hospital has been fantastic so far for my cat and I, and about a minute off of 36 via McCaslin. Even better, when life is far more typical, they're open till about 7 pm on weekdays, and part of Saturdays. We see Dr. Ashley, and she's been great to work with. :)

Not Boulder, but we have a cat that struggled with itching/chewing fur off for a few years. We had been taking our cats to Rock Creek near Flatirons mall, and they tried a bunch of different options but we didn't really get anywhere. Only thing that worked was a steroid that they (and we) didn't want to stay on long term. We switched to Orchard Vet in Westminster when we moved across town, and Dr. Knepler was able to quickly diagnose and give us an action plan (that involved going back on the steroid short term to let hair regrow and then switching to a gentler medication long term.)
We had otherwise good experiences with Rock Creek, and I'm sure the options we'd already tried with them helped to pin it down, but I was impressed with how quickly Dr. Knepler was able to give us a most likely scenario and outline some options.

Dont have any recommendations for a general vet but it sounds like he might need to get allergy tested. The same thing was happening to our cat. There's a veterinary dermatologist in Frederick who is good.

Can't speak directly to itchy hair. As far as cat vet recommendations go, we have been very happy with Alpine Hospital for Animals. Super friendly people and quick resolution of the few problems we've had. Several friends with older cats who need much more care originally recommended them to us.

If you ever need an amazing diagnostic vet for a particularly confusing illness or condition, I *highly* recommend Dr. Kalenzi in Broomfield (formerly at South Boulder Animal Hospital). I mean, I recommend him in general as well, but he's great at diagnostics.

We really like Left-hand Vet in Niwot, and have had good experiences with Alpine Vet as well.

I've liked Arapahoe at 55 th and Arapahoe on the west edge of Boulder. I'm no vet, but have you recently changed cat food or household cleaners? Could be an allergic reaction.
ninareads replied:
Don't go to Uniquely Cats unless you're prepared to sit through a 45 minute lecture from your vet about why you should be making your own cat food and grinding up chicken with the bones still in and how that will solve all your problems - but they did take very good care of my cat, the one time we went there.

I live in Boulder and take my cat to Pets and Pals in Lafayette. My cat doesn't have any health problems, so I've only ever had to have checkups, shots, and teeth cleaning. Their facility is not new and shiny in the least and looks a bit run down when you go in, but I've liked the care my cat has received over the two years I've known them and their prices can't be beat. My cat's teeth cleaning with anesthesia was about $200, versus the $400-$500 starting price I've found around Boulder over the years. I appreciated the time the vet spent with my cat and me, everything so far has gone smoothlyy. Their online reviews are also high on average.

I've never had a bad experience with Arapahoe Animal in Boulder (either location)
Can anyone recommend a good/reasonable animal dermatologist? My dog is having ongoing issues and the vet recommends a good dermatologist, but the one he recommends can't...
