So sorry to hear the news about your mom. I have a friend who had a lung transplant in 2013 and she lives in the Gainesville area and these are the doctors sees...Dr. Schmidt, Primary Care265-9475, Dr. Faruai, Pulmonary273-8740 and Dr. Peter Acs, Oncologist (for infusions). She said to tell you that she also periodically travels back to Duke (NC) for check-ups. Hope your mom gets better and gets to move closer to you.
Melissa M. replied:
Sorry I didn't respond right away. Jessica, she had the transplant at Mayo clinic in Jacksonville in September. They went back in a 2 nd time to possibly remove a lung but didn't. In the meantime they paralyzed her diaphragm. She was released today and they said it's not rejection - her portable ventilator wasn't working properly so they reset the machine. They are talking about stitching the diaphragm down?!?!? To see if that can help her case. So we shall see. She will be there through April now. Diane, thank you for all the info! It's greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Ok. I literally just gave someone else all this info, so will send it your way as well. I have worked personally with each one of these doctors for the last 3+ years and trust them explicitly as a nurse, patient, colleague and friend. I *highly* recommend the following people, located at Shands Internal medicine on Tower Hill: Male providers: Dr. Sorin (I send my mom to him), Dr. Holland, Dr. Budd, and (if he's still there) Dr. Smith. Female providers: Dr. Nagoshi, Dr. Maska (love her!), and Dr. Panna. I've worked personally with each of these physicians and LOVE them all. (Holland and Maska are younger but absolutely amazing). The phone number for appts is: 352-265-0335 Website is: https://m.ufhealth.org/internal-medicine-tower-hill If you have GatorCare (I'm assuming you do through work), be sure to tell them you HAVE GatorCare whenever you call to make an appt, and you will get appointments sooner. Just FYI .

I regularly see Dr. Daniel Rubin and have also seen Dr. Philippa Bright - can heartily recommend both for their caring attitude and willingness to TALK to me (instead of AT me!)
I'm looking for suggestions on a primary care doctor for myself. I need one ASAP to discuss some concerns I have, so I need someone who will actually listen. Thanks in...

Kinda a random question , does anyone on here have a thyroid disease? I'm trying to find a good primary doctor that will actually listen and so far it has been difficult.
Tricia R. replied:
I really love Dr. Brandon Bodlak. He is an amazing provider. Always listens and takes his time.
Jennifer S. replied:
I do not have thryroid issues, but my PCP at Uf Family Medicine on Main (Dr. Chacko) is always very open minded with my concerns/suggestions. I would recommend her
Christina F. replied:
I like Dr Lang at Magnolia Park. He wasn't the one who initially diagnosed me but he does listen, talk about diet and other factors, etc
Amanda R. replied:
I recommend Dr. Lang as well.
Amy T. replied:
My husband and I see Dr. Bodlak and love him! My husband has hypothyroidism as well.
Dawn M. replied:
I saw on another thyroid page that Dr. Sandra Werbel is good and she will prescribe desiccated thyroid meds. I haven't been to her yet but it's worth a try!
Jennifer R. replied:
I have thyroid disease, hypothyroidism. I see an endocrinologist. I highly recommend seeing one. There is just so much too it that primary doctors don't know. Like, immediately after getting pregnant you will have to increase meds, then follow and increase a few more times. I have heard good things about Dr. Bodlak. He is actually a friend of a friend, so I don't use him. My endocrinologist is Dr. Rogers. He is very smart. He is quick, but nice and he reallly knows his stuff.
Debi R. replied:
I see Dr Chauhan at Accent. She's great. Just a note...i don't know what med you're on...I had my thyroid problem diagnosed when I was 18. For more than a decade I had no problems, then they substituted the generic for my brand name med. It totally didn't work the same. Doc's now always put "brand name only" for my thyroid med...and they said quite a few ppl have had that problem. Just thought I'd mention.
