Hi, I'm almost certain my mom has TN or something similar. She's been bounced around to so many different doctors who just keep sending her in circles. Her pain is so...

Hi Amy, Sorry to hear about your Mom. TN only affects the face/head area, so it wouldn't be affecting the rest of her body. It definitely sounds like she is needing a good doctor to investigate her problems. Probably a neurologist or a rheumatologist could help. Sometimes TN is caused by pressure on the trigeminal nerve, but in many cases, doctors can't determine what has caused it. There are some conditions which can possibly cause it too, so it would be good to see a doctor who can help. This link takes you to the Facial Pain Association find a doctor page. If you put in your state, you should find some doctors who may be able to help. http://fpa-support.org/healthcare-providers/

Hopefully someone from your area will read your post:)

I don’t unfortunately have a recommendation in the tri-state area specifically BUT so many practices are offering telemedicine right now that it could be a great time to take advantage of that. If you want to see someone in person, the closest I would recommend is a neurologist at The Trigeminal Neuralgia Center at Johns Hopkins. If you are interested in telemedicine, I would seek opinions at Mayo Clinic or Stanford. Both have big positions in the TN community.
If you are interested in my TN story, how I was diagnosed, and how I ultimately found relief, I made 3 YouTube videos which can be found by searching Maria Coffaro. I hope you find them helpful and subscribe if you do.
All the best!

Use heat. Such as oregano oil or capsaicin mixed with coconut oil. Just be careful about using around the eyes. Just keep the area warm let me know how it goes
So sorry your mom is dealing with this. She is lucky you are trying to help her find relief.
Neurosurgery is extremely daunting so I do not blame her for being worried. I am only 27 and had MVD in October 2020 and it was tough—not going to sugar coat it—but it was worth it in the end.
I unfortunately do not have a recommendation in WA but if traveling is an option, I went to Mayo Clinic and am currently pain free after my neurosurgeon removed the compression of my trigeminal nerve.
On a related note, if you or your mom are interested in my TN experience, my MVD surgery, recovery, and how I eventually found relief, I made 3 YouTube videos to hopefully help others who are struggling with a recent diagnosis, are generally curious about TN, are considering surgery, etc.
I hope you both will check them out by searching Maria Coffaro. If you or your mom have any questions about my brain surgery experience, I am happy to answer them. If you find them helpful/insightful/informative, I would love if you’d subscribe to the channel, too.
All the best. I hope your mom finds relief soon!
I need a Neurologist recommendation at Simed or another in network provider in the Gainesville area. Not Shands :)
