Are there any actual ABM therapist on here? If so can you get a hold of me? I plan on getting the training but I want to know how I need to go about doing it. Thanks.

Hi Rachel. I'm an ABM practitioner and have been helping out in the current basic program in Las Vegas. The next training is scheduled to begin in March, the website for more information about that is here: http://www.anatbanieltraining.com/upcoming-trainings-2/abm-basic-professional-training. Between now and then Anat is teaching a number of one and two day workshops throughout the country. Depending on where you live if one is happening close by that might be a way to meet her in person and get a sense of her teaching. Don't have all the dates off the top of my head other then Atlanta September 13 and Chapel Hill Sept 12. I know Texas, Colorado, and California are also on the list. She's also doing a 5-day workshop in California for parents that might be worth considering if you want a bigger taste of what the trainning process is like in the meantime. As mentioned above Ed Dassie is the enrollment manager for Anat, so he's who you'll eventually speak to. If there's anything I can help with, feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.
Mike W. replied:
Ed will chime in eventually I'm sure. I'd say read Anat's books if you haven't already, otherwise re-read. Consider attending one of the workshops or the California 5 day. If you have a practitioner near you schedule a few lessons for yourself. If there's no one teaching classes nearby, do movement lessons from any of the dvd programs whenever you can at home (you'll eventually want them all, unless the whole bundle goes on sale again start with just one or two of the programs). There's really not much in the way of outside study involved, other than doing movement lessons and reviewing transcripts which you get access to as the training goes along. Other books that are recommended, but not required, would be the Brain That Changes Itself and the Brain's way of Healing by Norman Doidge, Soft Wired by Michael Merzanich, and all of Moshe Feldenkrais' books (he was Anat's primary teacher, she built her work from studies with him.) With Moshe's books I'd start with either the Elusive Obvious (more theoretical) or Awareness THrough Movement (more practical). For something a little different The Case of Nora, which is probably the easiest to read, a case study of a woman he helped recover from a stroke.

1-866-495-6735 is another hotline for help 24/7 and they can refer you to a counselor for an appt in the future. Good luck.

Therapy Absolutly helps, depending on your situation you would want to pick your own therapist because they usually have specialties. Google a psychologist in the area you want to go to and call a few docs to set an apt. It's worth it.
