How do you feel about poorly-executed European castle concepts?

Unless ramblewood has significantly improved in all aspects in the last 4 years, I cannot advise you enough to stay the hell away from them. Background: I gave them 2 money orders for a months of rent, they scanned the same one twice and conveniently "lost" one of the $500 money orders. That was for rent in october, then in may they sent me an eviction notice saying I still owed rent from back in October. So they either had people stealing rent money, or they were totally incompetent and lost $500 for more than 6 months before finally trying to fuck me.

There are plenty of rooms to rent in the area, and apartments that are in duplex houses. All very affordable. I have a 2 br for a bit under $900 about a mile from the hospital.

Lofts on Prospect. It's a renovated church 2 blocks from the hospital. I lived there for 2 years and it's right in your price range.

i'd look at getting a house, unless you dislike maintenance. the cost of an apartment is getting ridiculous in grand rapids and surrounding areas as well as the cost of buying a house. I view it as, if you are going to be spending that much money a month, might as well invest in a home, right?
It doesn't need to be a big house, but get one with a garage and some yard. even if you dont plan on staying in grand rapids long, with the way the market has been going, you are almost likely going to get more when you sell your house.
i understand that with an apartment, you dont have to pay for repairs, mow the grass or have any other responsibilities of having a home and some people like that. I hate having to mow the grass and shovel the snow. there is more living space, more storage and we dont have to walk the dog so it can shit/piss.
grand rapids is a small enough city that it doesn't take very long to get downtown. we live by 36th and burlingame and it takes 12 minutes to get downtown. you can even live outside the city and have less than a 20 minute drive to get downtown.
regardless, good luck and when you get here, welcome to grand rapids.

The Hendrik. It's above Bridge St Market (Meijer Market) on the west side. There are tons of bars and restaurants nearby and a free bus (19) that stops right out front and drops you off along Medical Mile (get to avoid the shuttle lot of Spectrum if that's where you will be working).

Waters House apartments. Just down the road from downtown and a 5 minute drive from Michigan St hospitals. All of the apartments are newly renovated

I'd try the West Side near Bridge Street. Lofts on Alabama, apartments above the Bridge Street Market, Union Square Condo or the apartments above the Knickerbocker. Hospital is right down the road, Bridget Street Market is close, tons of bars/restaurants on Bridget Street, easy access to the highway.

I would recommend the search function as this is the most popular topic on this sub.

It sounds like you may want to check out apartments in Eastown or some of the nicer ones on Michigan Street (but the closest bars to here are more dive bars). I haven’t lived in any apartments in either place (everyone loves Eastown though) so I can’t help much with specifics, sorry! Good luck on your search and welcome to GR!

Heritage Hill is a great place to live, and is very close to the medical mile. Many of the homes in this neighborhood have multiple units. Lots of apartments for rent are listed on the HH website, check it out: https://www.heritagehillweb.org/properties/current-property-listings/

OddSide Ales in Grand Haven started bottling their beers. Their Citra Pale Ale (CPA) is awesome. Follow them on Facebook. They always have an awesome selection in the brewpub.
The Grand Brewery in downtown Jackson is a gem. Prices are tad bit steep for Jackson, but I highly recommend it. Definitely a good sign to see Jackson trying.
