It can be difficult to get a nice 4 beat out of a strong pacer, but it can be done. Here are a couple of video's that will give some suggestions and exercises to help. http://www.horsesense4 u.com/product/dvds%20 special
Maye C. replied:
Lisa Bohanon Parkhurst is correct. Walk, Walk, Walk and when you are tired of walking WALK some more. You need an even 4 beat walk first. Ask for a nice speed of walk not a dog walk. You horse has to retrain its muscle memory to the even 1,2,3,4. Also your horse needs to get into shape both with muscle and cardio. As your horse gets into shape start speeding up your walk. Remember slow and steady wins in the end. Also get some landscape timbers 8-10. Start out with them about 15-20feet apart in a line. Walk in a serpentine pattern around them. This weave pattern will help to break up the pace footfall. As your horse gets into shape move the poles closer together. This will take time. It is not a quick fix. But you end up with a great foundation on your horse. Pm me if you have questions. I will help you all I can.
