John Park ( Nathaniel Newton is amazing) or any of the vet schools. It can be challenging but it is certainly do-able. It is not inexpensive, but then again, it has its benefits.

I have a friend here in California that does it all the time, successfully. Her website is threedayranch.com if you want to see what is possible. She uses recipient mares all the time.
Lisa D. replied:
Debi Kimbrell Did it successfully. You could talk with her. His name is El M Brio, he is 8 and for sale at the bottom of this page. http://shanelandstables.com/forsale.html

I need opinions please! My 3 yo Rocky has laminitis with rotation of his coffin bone. I recently came across this and was wondering if anyone has used it and would be...
Lorraine S. replied:
I have not used this product but my Rocky had heat related laminitis this Summer (I am in AZ) I use Remission which is a supplement for horses that are prone to laminitis and if your horse can't take Bute there is a supplement called Buteless by Absorbine which helps with pain. Try and get some Soft Ride remedial hoof boots so he is comfortable they are expensive but sometimes you can get a secondhand pair on Hoofboot page. There is no easy fix, hoof has to grow out. Make horse comfortable a good barefoot trimmer who knows what they are doing. Small hole hay net do not starve horse even if overweight they need food. Google Dr. Robert Eustace he's in UK but has huge laminitis clinic and info. Online. Good luck.

Laminitis and Founder are two different things. Founder is a reoccurring series of laminitis episodes that results in rotation of the coffin bone. Your horse can have laminitis without rotation. As far as his product, I've never even heard of it. I suggest a knowledgeable farrier that has a lot of experience and specializes in laminitis and founder.

Also, there is a website, Thriving Pets.com that compounds pergolide. A lot cheaper than Prascend. Vet can give you a prescription. It can come in capsule, tablets, liquid I think.
Barb F. replied:
You can get Heiro at many of the online tack stores, Valley Vet, Stateline, etc. http://www.equinemedsurg.com/faq/heiro/ I have one vet who said "not worth the money" another who said "try it". I had to put my mares food in slow feeders and fenced off EVERY thing edible, including barn doors and muck rake handles:-)

Kim Gibson Young I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. I have 3 Rockies that have Uveitis. One is blind, one is blind in one eye, one has no visual deficits. I have studied this disease extensively and am a current patient at UC Davis here is Ca with Dr. M Lassaline who is an Equine Ophthalmologist only. My mare has just got through the first research study in the US to use Stem cell IV infusion in horses to try and find better treatment options for ERU ( Uveitis, AKA Moon Blindness). I would be happy to share my knowledge and experiences with you. My first advise would be to try very hard to see an Ophthalmologist. No one can see the inside of a horses eyes clearly without a slit lamp microscope and that can tell them a wealth of information. Our Gen Vets just do not have that kind of specialized training nor the equipment. Uveitis is a VERY complex disease and there is often misinformation out on the internet. My 2 mares with ERU who are Chocolate but do NOT have ASD AKA know now moreso as MOCD. As someone mentioned above, ASD has always been thought to not be a progressive disease and ERU is not associated with ASD. They are very different and distinct conditions. Getting the CORRECT diagnosis asap is so very important and can save you time, money and damage to your horses eyes. Big Hugs to you...i really do understand how stressful eye conditions are for us to deal with.
Myranda E. replied:
Gayla Burk can tell you about ERU But that is an entirely separate issue from MCOA (what they used to call ASD)
