The a/c system can be evacuated and recharged with freon and dye in order to pinpoint the location of the leak. Have this done before dropping a load of money on other repairs. An A/C sniffer can be used, but I find that the dye is more obvious for the leaks. Getting a good mechanic isn't so much about going to a particular place or another as it is building a relationship with the actual person who is working on your vehicle. Most shops will let you go back and see what is actually the issue with your car. I enjoy this and have no problem explaining what is wrong with a vehicle because I want them to be confident in what service and repair I am performing for them. Also remember while independent shops can be cheaper, the dealership knows your brand vehicle better than most others do. I would recommend going to particular guys listed at shops vs. One shop that people have had a good experience at solely because a shop that gave a job to one guy who cared might also have a guy who doesn't and depending on the day you might get either or. And remember only one man ever walked this earth was perfect...
