Recommend furniture stores that's better quality than IKEA but more affordable than Gallery Furniture? just moved and need big pieces like couches and beds. had poor...

**Used Furniture:** I've found that "used" furniture has a more eclectic feel and usually holds up better. I like Alabama Furniture and looking for good deals at Goodwill, Nextdoor, and Facebook. Alabama Furniture only takes nice used items. Their website is great, you can browse all their pieces. You can find some really nice stuff fairly easily. [http://www.alabamafurniture.com/home.php](http://www.alabamafurniture.com/home.php) I wish I had known this before I got a lot of my stuff from Rooms to Go when I first moved to Houston.
**Budget, Quality Furniture:** You can also get new stuff from Amazon, I've gotten a really modern and nice futon for just $200 and some really cute modern side tables, book shelves, and chairs. For new furniture on a budget, I'd also recommend Tuesday Morning, Ross, and Big Lots. I got some great tv trays at Big Lots for $20, I can't find them for less than $40 anywhere else. They have some nice, inexpensive and sturdy desks, chairs, shelves, and really nice decor. I've heard Nadeau has good prices and unique pieces too, but I don't have personal experience with them.
**Pricey, New Furniture:** If you want to get a nice, new, and more expensive sofa, West Elm sometimes has really good deals. [https://www.westelm.com/shop/furniture/sofas/](https://www.westelm.com/shop/furniture/sofas/) The Dump also has some pretty decent deals as well.
**Mattresses:** As far as these are concerned, I've read several testimonials on Reddit that online mattress shopping is often cheaper and more favorable than in-store. (I think it was this sub, actually). Here's some websites people have mentioned loving: [https://purple.com/](https://purple.com/) ; [https://www.leesa.com/](https://www.leesa.com/)
**Decor:** Tuesday Morning, TJ Maxx, Ross, Dollar General, Goodwill (holiday decor, especially), and Big Lots. Target is great, but can be pricey.
**Avoid:** Just avoid falling into the "I need to have everything right now" problem. Instead, get necessities and then build your collection and decor from there. Avoid places like Rooms to Go, which promise nice furniture but enslaves you to years of payments. Maybe you won't like that furniture in a few years? I know I've had my own regrets. As great as it is to blow your budget on all nice, new things... It's better to let time dictate your decor and pieces, you'll build a more eclectic style that's better suited to you than just getting whatever is being sold right now that 100s of other people have too. Also, instead of generic prints, consider filling your home with inexpensive art from local artists. :)

Bf and I moved into a house this year so my memory is fresh on major furniture purchases. The furniture we got is more traditional but our experience may still help. Everything I'm listing was an online purchase: **Macy's** \- got sectional from here. It was a risk because we never saw anything in person, but we are very pleased with the quality of it and its delivery. Bf bought his parents a bedroom set from Macy's and they are also happy with the quality. **Bed Bath and Beyond** \- got coffee table from their website, of all places. Ashley Furniture quality. **Overstock.com** \- got big living room rug from here. Good quality and good price. Far cheaper than what I found at the Dump for a wool rug. **West Elm (only negative experience)** \- got the headboard from here. Their customer service was unhelpful and delivery time was super long for the headboard we got (tufted fabric - took like 3 months). I wouldn't recommend West Elm unless it's furniture that you won't care too much about. There's also stuff online about how terrible their furniture quality is, so we did not buy the actual bed here. Fortunately the headboard is ok and the delivery on the day of was fine, and it's not like the headboard has to support our weight. I also ordered some fabric samples and the process was also dumb. I got a card two weeks later saying they were out of fabric samples. I think a month later I got one of the samples. Never saw the rest of them. **KD Frames** \- got the wooden bed frame here. Good quality. **Sleep EZ** \- BF wanted fancy latex mattress from here. If you want a regular mattress, I've purchased one from Texas Mattress Makers and really liked them.

Costco, cost plus world market. Crate and Barrel has some nice contemporary stuff, but price wise its similar to Gallery furniture.

[https://www.lasierrafurniture.com/](https://www.lasierrafurniture.com/) this place is legit, you can go to rooms to go or Ashley's then go to La sierra and they will order from the same manufacturer and charge u way less! And they deliver and set up.

At Home*, Cost Plus World Market and Mid-n-Mod are all worth a look. Consignment Collection up on 1960 is massive, and even if you don't find something you like, you'll at least get some ideas (and probably a couple laughs, too). StillGoode Consignment, Designer's Furniture Exchange, Blue Bird Circle and The Guild Shop are all worth a look, too. For mattresses, Amazon has some best selling memory foam designs that will be on special for the Fall season, typically $279 for a queen. Pretty solid for the money; I've had mine for almost a year and a half and it'd done fine. Edit for correction: i meant At Home, not Home Goods.

We recently got some furniture at Rooms to Go that I feel was pretty reasonably priced and seems to be relatively well made. Free delivery, and they will deliver sooner if you widen your delivery window. If you have access to a truck, I've been able to find furniture at a very steep discount or very negotiable if you add the word "divorce" to your craigslist search.

A lot of houstonians still go to Gallery despite the higher prices because during Harvey, Mattress Mack of Gallery furniture opened up his stores as shelters and let 400 people sleep on his beds and couches and even bring their pets. He really saved a lot of people during that time. I understand if it's out of your budget however.
TosshiTX replied:
Macy's. Seriously. I didn't even know they sold furniture and I found some awesome pieces that were on further sale. Ended up with a very nice couch, armchair, and bedframe from them.

If you're looking for modern style and quality above Ikea's, we just ordered some chairs from [Article](https://www.article.com) and had a great experience. The prices are very reasonable (especially compared to [Joybird](https://www.joybird.com), etc) and the ordering/delivery process were great. We had the chairs within a week and they required no assembly aside from screwing in the legs with the provided hardware, which took maybe 15 minutes.
LindyNet replied:
We've had furniture from everywhere over 20+ years and the only pieces that have lasted past 5 or 6 years were the ones from Ikea. Some of their stuff is not that great but things like couches and beds seem to last forever. That said, after the flood we got a big sectional and bed frame from Rooms to Go, they seem pretty solid so far and less pricey than Gallery.
Looking for used furniture stores in the Spring area Does anyone have any recommendations for stores that sell used and second hand furniture? I’ve tried a few...

Northwest Assistance Ministries usually has a bunch of furniture. It's roughly at FM1960 and Kuykendahl. The Salvation Army further east on 1960 also usually has a good selection.

Shortcut resale at Cypresswood and Kuykendahl has some good stuff. Ive gotten everything from dining sets, 4 post beds etc from there. Lots of really unique stuff too and they deliver if in like 5 mile range. Lots of stuff from estate sales. The store is divided over 3 spaces in the shopping center and if you pay cash they usually discount. Love that place.

Alabama furniture, consignment collection (1960/ champions) and designers furniture exhange (near galleria) are worth a look. Though the last one focuses on nicer stuff, can still have good deals. And, for new furniture, check cost plus world market and at home (both have multiple locations). Their websites are not great, so browse in person.
