Crusader Kings II - for medieval time [link](http://store.steampowered.com/app/203770/Crusader_Kings_II/) Europa Universalis IV ~ 1400 to 1800 time period [link](http://store.steampowered.com/app/236850/Europa_Universalis_IV/) Victoria II ~ 1800 - 1930 [link](http://store.steampowered.com/app/42960/Victoria_II/) Hearts of Iron IV - WWII period [link](http://store.steampowered.com/app/394360/Hearts_of_Iron_IV/) All these games are from Paradox Interactive, and are similar in certain regards, and will take you from 1000 s to 1950 s. PS If you pick one of these game, pay no attention to the massive amount of DLC's at first:D

If you're looking into Pharaoh, go back a couple of years to Lords of the Realm 2. Same developer: Impressions Games. It's a fantastic turn-based strategy game with some early concepts that got carried through the decades. And if you like the mechanics, the fantasy successor Lords of Magic: Special Edition is superior in many ways, albeit not historical and without the economic micromanagement and awesome sieges.

I'd highly suggest trying out the Europa Barbarorum mod for first Rome: Total War. It's an absurdly detailed, incredibly well researched and mostly historically accurate addition to an already quite fun original game.

If you are interested in East Asia, Romance of the Three Kingdoms (China) and Nobunaga's Ambition (Japan) are good strategy games.

If you like Pharaoh you could try its sequel, Zeus: Master of Olympus. Also for the Total War games I really enjoyed Napoleon and Shogun 2.

Not heavy on the learning experience but chivalry medieval warfare is dumb fun for a few days

you can check out Darklands. It's an old game, but it's hella historical:D Also if you liked pharaoh, then you can always play Caesar, Zeus, or Emperor. Then there's stuff that deals with certain historical subjects and has some ingame encyclopedia for it. The Journeyman Project games, it's a timetravel adventure series, and Cosmology of Kyoto. And then there's been some historical myst-like adventure games like Versailles (or something like that)

If you like point and click adventure games, try Gabriel Knight 2. I recommended it to a history enthusiast who isn't even a gamer and she loved it. 1800 s Germany.
