Should we sell privately or through a dealer? So my two sisters and I lost our dad in October. He left behind his 2016 caravan. It's in great condition, he paid 23,000...

You could consider an appraisal by CarMax. They’ll make you an offer, and you can sit on it for a few days, or you could even use their offer as leverage at another dealership.

Thanks everyone! My sisters and I talked it over and we're defiantly going to see what Carmax has to offer

I haven't sold privately before, but a couple of things spring to mind. A dealer will low ball you. But at the same time, they're also alleviating you of the potential headaches of selling on your own. If you sell privately you'll have to be able to make the car available for test drives and inspections, and you might not even get as good of an offer as you would from the dealer. If you sell to a dealer, you might lose some money that you would otherwise get selling privately (but then again, you might not), but you're also in the free and clear immediately with nothing to worry about.
I guess it all depends on how comfortable you are letting the vehicle sit around waiting for a sale and how much work you are willing to put into the process.
All that said, I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your father, I can only imagine that it's been a tough few months for you and your family.

It may be more effort but actual car forums are a good place to sell vehicles. I've bought several cars and bikes over the years this way and the previous owners didn't have to deal with as many flakes from Craigslist. Some aren't as active as others but [Dodge Forum](https://dodgeforum.com/forum) or maybe [Chrysler Forum](http://forum.chryslerminivan.net/forum.php) Regarding payment I've always paid in cash and when I've sold vehicles it was always cash as well, if I was going to do a check I'd wait until it cleared but a lot of times folks will just leave a cash deposit for you to hold the vehicle like maybe $500

That 15-16K, is that the trade in value or private party value. You will get more money selling it yourself, but you will have to deal with people asking to come see it and asking if you have financing, etc. As said already, take it to Carmax and get their offer. Use that as a baseline and then take the car to other dealers to get an offer. Take the highest offer you get. It all depends on how much is your time worth? If you are willing to sell it private party, you can get more $. If you just want to sell it and move on, then selling it to Carmax or another dealer would be better. They will offer you a few grand less, but it's much easier than dealing with the general public.
