Anyone have a good recommendation on a good primary care physician in the area? I'm looking for a new one that is definitely LGBT friendly.
Herschel S. replied:
Steve check out www.glma.org and see if they're database has any providers in your area. It's the GLMA: Gay and Lesbian Medical Association I worked for them in California and we had a provider database of LGBT Docs or at least friendly.

Emotional Support Animals? Hello!
I hope I don't get torn to shreds here, but my girlfriend is hoping to get emotional support animal. She did therapy for years (high...
Skunkdrunkpunk replied:
Don’t forget to factor in the cost of owning the animal. Food, vet trips, yearly vaccinations and check ups. As well as all around upkeep. If money is a issue this should be considered.
40kNerdNick replied:
https://esadoctors.com/emotional-support-animal-michigan/ I'm not affiliated but this seems like a decent overview. High points from glancing it over: Michigan doesn't require businesses to accept the support animal. Call ahead to see if it's okay with them. If you're looking for more than just a pet that makes you feel better by their presence you're talking more along the lines of a service animal (trained to react to certain criteria - for example you can train a dog to react to seizures at home but service dogs are trained above that level). Those are expensive and I've heard there are waiting lists but can't confirm. Hope it all works out!
ShortBusBangBus replied:
FYI. Emotional Support Animals are absolutely *not* legally considered service animals within the framework of the Americans with Disabilities Act, so you cannot expect the same privileges (being allowed to bring it into a business or workplace being, etc). Your partner is not likely to enjoy the extra protections given to people who use certified service animals. I don’t mean to discourage your partner from further exploring the benefits of an ESA, but I want to strongly suggest she do her research and temper her expectations. Best of luck. EDIT: there are some allowances made (under specific conditions) as part of of the Fair Housing Act. Again, make sure to do your research.

Shari L. replied:
Try Dr. Clapp. He's been in practice for many years. Check with Teri Olbrot. He just did her bunion surgery.
Corrine S. replied:
Dr Tiller. He is also a runner. I have PF too. Finally have it under control but can let you know what helped me...although everyone had to find what works for them. Good luck!!

Our own Dr. Valerie Stroupe is a good resource, as are naturopaths in our group Julianna Denney Sauber and Adam Brown. I'm sure there are others as well.
Valerie S. replied:
Ashley Roe, we (chiropractors) do free 30 minute consults if you would like to just sit and talk about your goals first and meet Dr. James and I. We would also be able to check your insurance while you are here and see what your benefit is. If you would like to do a consult, please call our office at 269-381-1800 and Janice can help you set that up.
Cassie K. replied:
I highly recommend Rambling Road Family Wellness and Chiropractic! I see Dr. Val! She is amazing as is her husband!:) And I have found a nurse practitioner that is open to a more natural lifestyle. I haven't seen her a whole lot yet but was she was recommended by my midwife as she knew our lifestyle and said she would be a good fit. Her name is Laura Ford and is in Mattawan.
Susan C. replied:
I second Laura Ford. I have not been to her, but my mom went for a long time & the things she said made sense with a more holistic lifestyle.
Has anyone seen Dr Shiparo in kalamazoo? Or, does anyone have recommendations for ears, nose, and throat doctor for getting tonsils out??
Sheri S. replied:
Dr Shapiro did mine about 5 years ago.
Caralee W. replied:
I have used Dr Raedy in Portage. He came highly recommended to me and I though he was great (I did not need tubes or anything though)
Rebecca S. replied:
I haven't heard anything bad about Dr. Shapiro. But I will concur that Dr. Cecilia Prophit-Graves has a fantastic reputation.
Lita G. replied:
I agree Dr. Cecilia Prophit -Graves is the best. She did my daughters 28 yrs ago and many others I know have used her. Worth the wait unless it is an emergency
Amber M. replied:
Dr Doug raedy did both girls tonsils and adenoids:)
Meghan K. replied:
Dr Raedy!! He was FABULOUS!!! Aria had tubes put in and adnoids removed...no issues!
Rebecca S. replied:
We had a consultation with Dr. Hugo Roesler 10+ years ago, and I wouldn't let my enemies go there, let alone my friends. He was horribly condescending, dismissive, and just plain rude. Very overbooked as well. I doubt things have gotten better.
Sharon B. replied:
Dr. Shapiro did Rob's surgery years ago and was wonderful! We went to Dr Profit-Graves for Taye after a recommendation for her with kids. We were not impressed. She immediately jumped to surgery as the only option. We went back to Dr. Shapiro for a second opinion and he worked with us to avoid surgery. So fabulous! Hope all is well!
Kristin F. replied:
Have used Dr Prophit and loved her!
Dee L. replied:
A friend of mine AND I have used Dr. Shapiro and we both really like him lot. Good luck!
Kneading S. replied:
Dr Profit.
Amy W. replied:
Dr. Raedy! Another ENT doc recently told me that he is doing cutting edge procedures, he had traveled to his office to witness. Not to mention he is a really nice guy!
Elizabeth F. replied:
I too say Dr. Profit, she's the BEST!
Jamie Y. replied:
Dr. Shapiro did mine 10 years ago and I didn't have any issues, nice guy!
Gloria G. replied:
Dr. Prophet Graves. Downtown. You can do outpatient too then you don't have to go to hospital. Literally just had mine out 16 days ago and was very very please with her. She's super nice and offers some homeopathic remedies for pain.
Does anyone have a really great female doctor that they love in the Kalamazoo area?

Chris S. replied:
My daughter ( now 29) loved Dr. Lia Gaggino... who is still in practice at one of the Bronson locations.
Jessica O. replied:
I like Dr. Custodio at Bronson Internal Medicine, she takes the time you need to talk over everything. I can't remember her first name though. I've been at Bronson for a few years and I love their office, they're always so polite and quick to answer questions. The nurses are sweet. Even though I live in GR now, I still drive down to see them because I like them so much:)
Angela M. replied:
Elizabeth Warner. I had her for 10 years when we lived in Portage! Absolutely loved her! She is off Stadium Dr in Bronson Internal Medicine! I saw the nurse practitioner in their too name Maurine Dobbie who was awesome also and the other female doctor in that practice, her name slips my mind, but I saw her when the other two could not see me! Wonderful staff and doctors!
Fran C. replied:
Dr. Melissa Davidson at Lifetime Wellness, Drake and West Main. I don't know if she's accepting new patients but she's awesome, specializes in both internal medicine and pediatrics so she is my GP as well as Peter's and Elena's doctor.
Mary B. replied:
I see Pamela Sanchez at Westside Medical. She's a GP. I also like that I can get xrays, labs & Rx filled all at same place/time.
Amy L. replied:
Nan Haring is a nurse practitioner at Bronson Family Practice, she is amazing!! She is a parishioner at St. Catherine's as well:)

Dr Doyle...he's on gull/sprinkle.

Kelly M. replied:
John Beavers NP - he is at Borgess Family Health is Galesburg - he is affiliated with Dr. Walk in BC. But, hes very good, nice and fairly easy to get into. We just left Promed because they are SO hard to get into. My husband fell down stairs and screwed his knee up and they told us it would be 16 days before they could get him in. That was the straw that broke the camels back.
Jamie W. replied:
I love Nan Harring, she is located in the hospital
Heather R. replied:
Sandy DeJonge NP at promed on angling road! She is awesome!!!
