Small appliance repair recommendations Would prefer to support a smaller business, Samsung dryer.

What’s the problem? I once paid $300 to have my dryer repaired, only to learn that its quite easy to repair yourself and the parts are relatively cheap. What cost me $300 could have only been $20 and 30 minutes of my time.

We really like Waterloo Appliance Service - they have fixed pretty much all of our appliances over the years and always do a great job. You can see their service call rates on their website. I have found them very honest about what's worth repairing and not (they don't sell appliances, so they're not trying to upsell you!). Can anyone in KW recommend a good appliance repair person?
Joanne L. replied:
Belmont Appliance. And I think he is from St Clements
Jeff W. replied:
Beck Appliance in Kitchener. Will talk over the phone to maybe eliminate a service call charge. He will tell you what it probably is and whether it is worth the visit. Beyond that, it is your decision.
Sharon D. replied:
I also agree -- Al Ferguson from Ferguson appliance is a great appliance repair person.
Recommendations for Appliance Repair? Specifically I need someone for my dryer which sounds like it's going to explode.
caleeky replied:
I'd personally recommend you research the symptoms to see if it'll be worthwhile to repair. Maybe it'll be something easy that you can fix yourself. Calling someone in will cost at least a hundred dollars. If it's an old machine, you could replace it with a used one for cheaper.

I would recommend Glen Campbell at [Action Appliance Service](http://www.actionappliance.com). I recommend him for several reasons: * he showed up when he said he was going to show up and was ready to work; * he asked me if I wanted to learn about the problem (yes please!) and showed me the problem -- bonus points for not dumbing it down and explaining it with a multimeter; * he followed up with another issue we had and provided a quote (provided within 24 hours). All in all a great experience.

Check your dryer's manufacturer website for authorized service centres in your area.

These guys: http://www.homeapplianceservice.ca/ My parents use them. I use them. They usually come out quickly and do a very good job. Fairly priced.

I'd give a shoutout to Waterloo Appliance Service. I've used them a couple times and they've been quite alright to deal with. That said, dryers aren't that complicated and Youtube is absolutely fantastic, and parts can be a *lot* cheaper online (even shipped from the US) than your typical authorized repair service can buy them, let alone install. I DIY'd an immobilized dryer (sock got down the lint trap and into the fan) and replaced a ceramic cooktop. The first was free and the latter was a $200 assembly. Probably saved $500.

http://www.localproappliance.com/ I used him recently, fairly priced and he was able to come the next morning after I emailed him. Super nice guy, I didn’t have cash but he said it’s a little cheaper if you pay cash. Good luck!

Are you replacing an existing over-the-range microwave or putting in brand new? The reason I ask after being burnt by a microwave repair guy who ordered expensive parts which didn't fix the problem and stopped returning our calls We ended up replacing the whole thing and now being fed up with contractors I just ended up doing it myself. Needed a second set of hands to lift into place but otherwise it was not terribly complicated at all. If you just want to vent out the front and don't need new vents to outside of the house it wouldn't be that bad. Youtube videos for the win. If you do get someone else to do the work, stay clear away from "Appliance Repair Guys" who are the above mentioned repair guys who were useless and/or dishonest.
