Anyone have a good Ophthalmologist (not optometrist) you can recommend?
Janice S. replied:
LOVE this place!! They proactively diagnosed my glaucoma even though I had NO symptoms or history. They also were the only place who was able to get Zack in within 24 hours for an ER follow-up a few years ago. The kids see Dr. Shin, I've seen Dr. Merrill, and then transferred to their glaucoma specialist. http://vaeyecenter.com/

Arlington/Loudoun Pediatric Ophthalmology in Sterling. They were recommended to me by another neighbor and we are really happy with the switch. http://www.melissakernmd.com/home.htm
I need an eye doctor in the Leesburg/Ashburn area, please.
Valerie M. replied:
Traci, myself and two of my kids actually see Dr. Bowen. She has an office right outside of Costco and was highly recommended to us. She even detected glaucoma, which The Eye Center missed on me. her number is 703-669-5064. It is pretty simple to get in as well. Good luck!
Jaclyn N. replied:
Dr. McGrew, in Leesburg
Anne B. replied:
Dr. Heather Burton at America's Best near 5 Below. She is a friend of mine and an excellent dr.
Ashlee B. replied:
Dr. Callahan off of Davis Drive. She's great!
Cathy F. replied:
Glad you asked this question Traci. Us too. Been going to Dr. Schwartz in Reston for 10 years. She charged Victoria 100.00 to show her how to put in contacts so we left her practice. We need an opthomologist vs optomotrist. Are any of these suggestions opthomologists?
Leslie J. replied:
The Eye Center (close to Lansdowne Hospital) has a great group of doctors. I see a specialist for glaucoma and cataracts.
Betsy H. replied:
I also go to the Eye Center myself and have been happy. My 12 year old has been going to the eye dr. for 3-4 years, so if you want one for one of your kids, I would recommend Dr. Melissa Kern by the Sterling P.O. I wasn't thrilled with the Eye Center's pediatric opthomologist, and had a couple of different people recommend Dr. Kern. We couldn't get in fast to see her, but we see Dr. Chaudhri at her practice.
Theresa C. replied:
Dr Hinkle at Pipeline Plaza in Ashburn is great! He is super personable and really good with pediatric or multi-focal vision. The staff is polite and respectful following through on patient commitments and delivery dates.
Tania K. replied:
I also go to the Eye Center, just for regular eye check ups (you've probably heard the commercials for Dr Boutros who does Lasik eye surgery there. It's his place). I see Dr Pearlman who is very thorough and spends a lot of time with you.
Kim J. replied:
We love Dr. Lee at A Wink and A Smile. She's handled normal stuff for us for years and has spotted issues as well. Love her. Just the nicest lady and you can get in fairly easily. In Lansdowne so close.
Sue R. replied:
Traci Dad & I used to go to Dr. Boutros and liked him. This was for just regular exams. Who is this for?
Does anyone have a recommendation for a pediatric ophthalmologist in Loudoun county?
Sarah P. replied:
An ophthalmologist is who you'd want to see. Dr. Kern is great and specializes in strabismus (misalignment of the eyes). Is it for River or Arrow?
Sarah P. replied:
Dr Melissa Kern. She is great!
Sheryl R. replied:
Ophthalmologist or optometrist? We love Dr. Jacobs in Mclean - a developmental optometrist.
Stephanie J. replied:
I take Gianna to Dr. Mohamad Jaafar, he's the chief of the ophthalmology division at Children's National, and he is the absolute best. Excellent with kids. He also has offices at the Children's center in Fairfax. If you're dealing with something that you have even the slightest concern about, go to him.
Jessica B. replied:
We have heard good things about Dr. Jacobs from others folks. Planning to take G there at some point...
Sheryl R. replied:
Dr. Jacobs is one of the best with vision therapy. If it requires surgery, then it's an opthamologist that you want.
Sheryl R. replied:
I disagree. I know a lot of children who have been helped by Dr. Jacobs. Including one baby/toddler a mother was told that he had to have surgery or he'd be learning disabled for the rest of his life (not). He's now pre-med at UVA.
Jennifer M. replied:
We've been happy with Dr. Tina Butera at the Eye Center in Sterling.
