NoVa ladies, I am looking for a good primary care physician and for an OB/GYN. Any female doctors you trust and would recommend in the Fairfax area?
Wendy H. replied:
I LOVE my ob/gyn. Her name is Dr. Cothran and she works at the burke location of Capital womans care. She is just down to earth and a great doctor.
Eva R. replied:
I went to Physicians and Midwives based off of a friend's recommendation and it was very good. They have a few offices in NoVA and the doctors rotate throughout. I liked Dr. Andre a lot, my friend also recommended Dr. Modjoros.
Nina B. replied:
Dr. Gina Hibschman@Capital Women's Care & Dr. Christina Michael for primary care at the INOVA Healthplex. They are both wonderful! Dr. Michael isn't the warmest, fuzziest doctor in the world, but she is extremely knowledgable and will tell you everything exactly how it is without any sugar coating. Dr. Hibschman is an excellent ob/gyn.
Sara A. replied:
http://www.vawomenshealth.com/ or http://www.fairridgeobgyn.com/ are both good OB/GYN practices. Dr. Hersch is wonderful. As far as a PCP goes, meh, I see Dr. Henochowicz at http://www.burkemed.net/ because he's convenient. He's from NY. 'Nuff said.
Does anyone have a contact for a good ob/gyn. that can deal with fertility issues? And can you also give me a ball park for price?
Judith C. replied:

When I was pregnant with my son I was given the option to have him in London. Thought that was a good idea until I found out they don't deliver at St.Joes anymore!...
Michelle T. replied:
My son was born there Sept 1993. They have amalgamated all services to Vic Hospital in the late 90 s.
Rachel C. replied:
Marg Veenhof The last baby was delivered there on June 4 th, 2011! That last baby born at St. Joseph's Hospital has been named "Joseph" in honour of the hospital Jun. 05, 2011 The last baby born at St. Joseph’s has been named after the hospital. Arriving at 11:44 pm on June 4, weighing 8 pounds 7 ounces, a little boy was born to first-time parents Courtney Micks and Jesse Russell of London. In a timely and touching gesture, the couple has named the infant Joseph in honour of the hospital. His arrival came just hours before moving day for the perinatal care program, making this newborn an important part of St. Joseph’s legacy of life and love. Courtney Micks and Jesse Russel - with nurse Denise Harwood - and their newborn son: the last baby born at St. Joseph's HospitalA little overwhelmed by all the fuss and attention, the proud dad said, “We’re honoured and thankful to have the last baby born at St. Joseph’s.” The infant was delivered by Dr. Renato Natale, city-wide chief of obstetrics, who delivered several babies at St. Joseph’s on June 4 in what turned out to be a busy final day for staff in the Family Birthing Centre and Mother Baby Unit. For more than a century, St. Joseph’s Hospital has been a centre of excellence in the care of women and newborns. On June 5, this long and illustrious tradition of care came to an end when the perinatal program moved across town to London Health Sciences Centre’s Victoria Hospital as part of health care restructuring in London. This transfer to much needed new, state-of-the-art space now brings together all obstetrical and neonatal services in London. Moving with the program is the excellence and compassion that expectant and new parents have received for more than 100 years at St. Joseph’s in the caring hands of highly specialized physicians and staff. “The arrival of this last baby to be born at St. Joseph’s Hospital is extra special for our physicians, staff and volunteers,” says St. Joseph’s President and CEO Dr. Gillian Kernaghan. “Courtney, Jesse and their newborn son will forever hold a special place in the history of our organization. We celebrate this new life with the family and wish them all the very best for a happy, healthy future.” As memento of this historic moment, the couple was presented with a large basket of special keepsakes and gifts made possible through the generous donations of corporate sponsors. Susan M. replied:
The NICU at St. Joe's moved to Children's Hospital at Victoria Hospital about 2 years ago. All the staff moved with the unit, so there is still great care in London.

New York Ladies:
I need to replace my Mirena IUD. Can anyone recommend an obgyn with whom you have had a positive IUD experience?
I have United Health Care.
I was wondering if you would like to have a highly experienced, retired nurse on here who trained under a real matron (!) in the British health system in the UK and...
Julie G. replied:
Eileen Williams. She explained to me once that in the 50 s, they used to give out probiotics after antibiotics. I think I got that right? I'll let her explain. It'll take a little while for her to respond as there is a 9 hour time difference (she's in Canada). She can certainly help with breastfeeding, delivery and that sort of thing and after care.
