Has anyone had any good (or bad, I guess) experiences with removal of varicose veins? I am assuming no one up here does it but anyone know of anyone in Santa Fe?
Jonathan D. replied:
Check out http://www.kristenlbiggsmd.com/ she's the only board certified vascular surgeon in the area doing this
Taylor M. replied:
I think Dr. Vosburg at MANNM might treat them.
Margaret G. replied:
I had varicose vein treatment, including removal of right leg large vein, which name of course escapes me at the moment, by Dr. Hertzman, Vein Care of New Mexico, 662-2900. His office is at the hospital. I was quite satisfied with the treatment. I am pretty sure he is certified in vein care. Removal was by laser treatment followed by foam treatment.
Jonathan D. replied:
He and a few other doctors in the area claim a to be a "Board Certified Phlebologist" but according to their own website "The American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine is not yet a Member Board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)" Note: The American Board of Phlebology changed its name a year ago. You can read about it on their own website here: http://www.americanboardofphlebology.org/about_the_board.asp If you want the best credential possible, check out the http://www.intersocietal.org/vein/ The LA Daily post ran a story about it recently.

Any of the men at MANNM are wonderful. My husband *loathes* going to the doctor's office, but has never had a bad experience at MANNM (neither have I, but my doctor is a woman, sorry!) Dr. Church is great, but his schedule is tight.

Can anyone recommend a good primary care physician?
Sally C. replied:
I think Debbie Davidson Morley would rather see this type of question on the LA Medical Information page, but my PCP is Dr. Goddard. I think most of the physicians at MANNM are good.

My PCP is Dr. Michelle White-Carr, at MANNM 661-8900

Husband might possibly need shoulder surgery. Can anyone recommend a good shoulder/ortho doctor in NM or even Denver? Also, anyone we should avoid...?? Thanks. **Admins...
Michelle B. replied:
We got in quickly to christus st Vincent in Santa Fe for my son's knee injury. Dr John Garcia was recommended to us by a friend and we thought he was excellent.
Sally C. replied:
Dr. Guttman from Taos Orthopaedic comes to Los Alamos at least once a month; he's a shoulder specialist and has a very good reputation. I've seen him but did not end up having surgery. If you don't mind having the surgery in Taos, I would recommend him. I also know people who have seen Dr. Bear in Santa Fe, who also focuses on shoulder surgery.
Holly B. replied:
Dr. Guttman did my surgery in 2006 ish..the BEST IN the area.
Denise D. replied:
Dr. Dan Guttmann at Taos Orthopaedic. Also has office hours in Los Alamos. Shoulder specialist. Highly recommended.

Dr Gutman in Taos. My husband had torn rotator cuff, torn bicep and damaged nerves in his elbow from an injury 5 years ago that his previous ortho specialist wouldn't fix. Dr Gutman repaired everything!! We highly recommend him.

Hi I'm looking for a recommendation for an optometrist in Los Alamos. Based on my insurance I'm looking at either Lisa Shin at Los Alamos Family Eyecare or any of the...
Cheryl R. replied:
I went to Dr. Shin for the first time Tuesday and really liked her. It was my first real eye exam but used to work for a larger optometrist office in LA several years ago. I prefer smaller businesses and was hoping I'd get in and out faster without waits and the hustle bustle. I got in, had my pre-exam, met with her, got an rx, & picked out glasses and out the door really fast.
Doug M. replied:
I've been going to Dr Shin for a number of years. Always done well by me.
Mandy M. replied:
I just made an appointment with Dr. Lisa Shin.

Dr. Brown is awesome, very kind and likes to listen.
Rachael M. replied:
I had Dr. Brown deliver my daughter down in Santa Fe last June! He was amazing! He also delivered my cousins 3 kids! My husband and I both felt very comfortable with him and he was more than happy to answer any questions we had! Also their office staff is amazing! I had my daughter at St Vincent's and it wasn't bad at all. I had a c-section so I was in the c-section area originally which had smaller rooms, but was transferred to a larger room later. We had pretty amazing nurses to be honest!
Aedin L. replied:
Another recommendation for Lynore Martinez of Santa Fe OBGYN. Very personable, she does what she can to let things go the way you want and listens. Staff is great too. As for St. Vincent's my experience was ok with them. Had some wonderful nurses and some that weren't as great. They get busy though and may move your room which is not fun.

Dr Honsiger is amazing. My daughter has allergy induced asthma and it was BAD.
Wendy M. replied:
Dr. Honsigner is the best. I did allergy shots there and I get through juniper season here pretty much unscathed.
Jo B. replied:
Stephanie .... our allergy - provokers are different than in Texas. I think in some parts of Texas (San Antonio area) Cedar is bad. Here in Los Alamos ... we have Juniper and Elm. (Maybe this year will not be so bad for your family ......) I agree: Dr. Honsigner's practice provides good medicine!
Pauline F. replied:
Dr. Honsinger is the best.
Wendy L. replied:
I've received the kenelog injection from both MANNM and Trinity Urgent care. It's the only thing that works for me this time of year. Good luck!
