Sorry that I didn't see this post yesterday. Theobromine is the toxic component and it isn't in high levels in some chocolate- bakers and dark chocolate is worse. Just an FYI- if you cannot get in touch with a vet, there is an Animal Poison Control Center you can call. Also, they have a free app you can download to your phone: http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control Hope your doggie is okay today!
Cyndi W. replied:
That Animal Poison Control Center, by the way, answers the phone 24 hours a day 365 days a year. I have the number (888-426-4435) programmed in my phone.
Debra G. replied:
sorry I am just now seeing this! Toxicity depends on type of chocolate and weight. This link is very helpful!http://www.vspn.org/library/misc/vspn_m01325.htm

I know it's not "local" but Smith Vetranary Hospital is open 7 days a week and nights for urgent care. They're in Santa fe but they really are wonderful!! 982-4418
Jennifer B. replied:
You can call the ER vet in Santa Fe and explain the situation. They will tell you if you need to come in.
We will be moving to Los Alamos this summer. I'm looking for recommendations for a dentist, pediatrician/family doctor and a vet.
Melissa R. replied:
High Mesa Dental Arts is great! www.highmesadentalarts.com
Dina P. replied:
Dr. Krohn is our pediatrician and we like her a lot. In our 6+ years with her we have never had to wait more than a few hours to get in. Just called this morning for our youngest and they gave us an appt in 30 min. Her office is inside the LA Medical Center (505) 662-9620 She also took all of our off hours calls when we were new parents with our first. It was very helpful. I dont know how she manages it.

Dorothy B. replied:
Vikki Saga at VikkiVet.com. She does house calls, so your animal doesn't have the stress of the ride or the waiting room prior to the stress of the exam room. Vikki is also available after hours and on weekends for a slight additional charge for emergencies. She has seen several of my animals at home, and they never even noticed they had been to the vet.
Brandi E. replied:
Rachel Myers for dental care, ridge view for a vet!
Kalyn S. replied:
Dr. Mcdonald is an awesome dentist for adults and kids. Ridgeview vet is amazing for the pets (:

Can anyone recommend a good, local, reasonably priced vet? Hopefully one I can get into early tomorrow morning. We just moved in a couple of weeks ago and our 14 year...

Vikki Saga makes home visits, especially for elderly animals. She has helped us through some very rough times, and we highly recommend her. We have found her prices to be more than reasonable, and she will give you options. Email is VikkiVetCare@outlook.com or phone is 505-709-0178.
LeAnn S. replied:
The Animal Clinic. Great vets and reasonable prices.
Hello new friends! Would anyone be willing to recommend a veterinarian, good with cats? I have two older kitties. The move was a bit rough on them. I'd like to get them...
Jennifer B. replied:
I love all of the vets at ACLA. Dr Bob is especially good with grumpy cats

Vikki Saga has come to my house and cared for my cats and dog. She has more hours of availability than the clinics have. Also, she gets to see the cats in their own environment, without the stress of the car and the office. She is reliable with follow-up.

My husband found this bird by truck route and state rd 4. About 30 minutes ago. If anyone knows who this bird may belong to please respond. Or if anyone has suggestions...
Mark W. replied:
Dr. Ramsey.
Jon L. replied:
Probably redundant at this point but owners of the bird are at 661-2574!
Sally C. replied:
It seems to be a cockatoo of some sort. It's a valuable bird, so I hope the owners see this. It's not a raptor, so I would also think Dr. Ramsey in Espanola if it is injured.
Jennifer B. replied:
661-2574. I think this is the same bird pet pangaea posted earlier. The phone number is for the owner
Jennifer B. replied:
here is the pet pangaea post. His name is Mars. https://www.facebook.com/petpangaea/photos/a.115662281815992.8431.109747329074154/734922216556659/?type=1&theater
We need a great vet. My parents just moved to town with their two little dogs and want to connect asap.
Thanks and enjoy this lovely day.
Sally C. replied:
Both Animal Clinic and Ridgeview have wonderful vets. I currently take my cats to Ridgeview, but the folks at Animal Clinc are great, too.
Jennifer B. replied:
I love Animal Clinic of Los Alamos. People are happy with Ridgeview as well.
Kristie A. replied:
Vikki Vet care is the best, second Animal Clinic for in town.
Jessica P. replied:
Dr. Stephanie Williams at https://www.facebook.com/102634803134960 Ridgeview Veterinary Hospital is the BEST. We've been going to her since they opened, at least 7 or 8 years ago. It's been so long, I've lost count! She has taken such wonderful care of all of our animals, including just this week when she literally saved my little dog's life. I knew something was terribly wrong and she came in on her day off to have a look at her. Turns out our dog was on the brink of death and needed a blood transfusion. She diagnosed and stabilized her right away so I could rush her down to the emergency clinic in Albuquerque for the transfusion. If it hadn't been for Dr. Williams, our little girl certainly would have died. She is doing so much better now. I refuse to take my animals anywhere else.
Shannon C. replied:
Also, stop by Pet Pangea. CIndi Wells is the go to source for any pet info, products or services.
Dolores J. replied:
Ridgeview!!! Or Animal Clinic
Charli H. replied:
Ridgeview is great, Vikkivetcare.com is wonderful. She will come directly to your home and her prices are great. Good luck , and welcome.
Martha M. replied:
Ridgeview Animal Clinic is the best!!
Amy A. replied:
The Animal Clinic is great! I brought my dog in on Christmas eve a few years back as her face was swollen and she was obviously having an allergic reaction. Just as they were about to close she started going into life threatening shock. They stayed late, actually they basically refused to leave until she was stable enough to be taken to santa fe for overnight observation. I truly believe Dr. Jackie saved my beloved pup's life. I won't go anywhere else.
Lynne C. replied:
Eastgate (the Animal Clinic) has always worked with us, letting us get only what WE want -- not what they require.
Susan W. replied:
Los Alamos Animal clinic is awesome!!! Ridgeview has great Vets but I am not crazy about the office staff. Eastgate (Animal Clinic) vets, techs, and office staff have always been wonderful to us!

Andrea P. replied:
We're lucky in LA - we have some great options. I use Ridgeview and really like them. Animal Clinic also has a great rep. Oso Vet is a mobile outfit and Trina M Hadden is wonderful.
I'm not sure if she's available on Sunday: http://www.vikkivetcare.com/
Laurie M. replied:
If he’s not in pain, and seems healthy, I’d try to get in with a local vet tomorrow. My experiences at the Santa Fe Emergency Vet for non-life threatening things have been uniformly dismal. (Thank goodness I have never had to use them for life threatening things. They are so far away the dog would likely be DOA.)
I called mobile vet Vikki Saga after our cat got in a fight with some animal. She came out on Saturday afternoon to see him and stitched his wound. She was amazing....
Lissie H. replied:
Vikkivetcare@outlook.com I got a super fast response. Probably not best for emergency stuff but I don't have her #. She did our heart worm test, checked out his teeth and gave nail trimming tips all for a great price!
Anybody have the phone number for the vet that will make house calls. I believe her name is Vicki?
