I'm currently on the tail end of having my roof replaced. Had 6 different companies come out and do quotes. They were all recommended by someone, so I ended up going with A+ Roofing. Local business, family owned, they were not the absolute cheapest, but close, and offer a good warranty.

someone in my neighborhood used Abraham Moreno, not sure if they were happy with him but a year later and the roof looks fine from the street. Anyone heard of this guy?

I'm in the same predicament. My slate roof needs a ton of work, likely cost 30 k. Love the slate but repair is cost prohibitive.
