If you get a convertible, please be aware that Puerto Vallarta is incredibly dusty. There are dump trucks spitting up dust constantly. The diesel buses with awful fumes. And you’ll probably be baked alive driving around in the sun without some sort of cover.

The rainy season just started. A convertible isn’t a good idea from June to October. A jeep is your best bet.

A jeep or all wheel drive is necessary if you want to explore outside Vallarta. No convertible. I use Enterprise across the street from the airport. Its expensive, but Id rather be safe than sorry. I have used a couple of the local shops and surprisingly, I was pulled over and the cop attempted to get a bribe from me. When I returned the car, the employee knew I had been pulled over. I have never used the smaller places after that.
