Being new to SB, one of my greatest sadnesses has been (and continues to be) the number of animals, both pets and wildlife, that are killed or injured on SB. So I have...

Jennifer Difranco Dickson the OP asked for responses. I never said for her to move. Nor did I say that Im the one speeding. I have two kids, Im not being reckless but this is "Country Living". Animals cross the road, animals get hit regardless of people speeding or the time of day or night. Ive come home many nights and have had deer jump out in front of my truck when I wasn't speeding. So if your looking for city solutions you are not going to find them out here.

FYI: not sure if the county is overwhelmed with calls on dead animals along the road or not but last Thursday I called in a dead fox or coyote (hard to tell) laying in the weeds along the road across from 66 S.B. and of yesterday it is still there. For any newbies here in the canyon, the number to call for dead animal pick up is 647-7756.

The SPCA Wildlife center cares for all wildlife. We have an actual facility/hospital above the shelter and are on call 24 hr/7. But nothing takes the place of people just slowing down and being more careful esp. at night!

I do not know the solution for getting speeders to slow down on this road, perhaps lowering the speed limit more might work. I have lived here for 30 years and during this time there has been a lot of accidents on this road. Harper Canyon has had more than it's share. We have had a few cars go down our embankment and thank God no fatalities but there have been fatalities further down the road. This road has gone from a nice quiet country road into a race track at times. We now have younger people moving in with young children, it scares me to see them out for a walk with their kids and some idiot race up the street, just to knock a few seconds of their time to get home. For the record, I have seen many a deer at the side of the road either dead or injured. Like I reported last year one idiot driving a truck hit a deer right in front of our home, I checked out the deer from a healthy distance, it was pretty dazed and when I turned around to go call Animal Control it got up and limped into the brush. I never did see it again. Welcome to the neighborhood Bonnie, it is a beautiful place to live.
I like east lake animal clinic in Watsonville . Very reasonable prices and worth the drive! Plus you can stop off at gizdich. 7246391

Hello! We have seen a mobile veterinarian drive up San Benancio Road every now and then. Does anyone know his number or how do get ahold of him? Please let me know ASAP....
She's regained her health. Not sure what caused her to become sick. But I would recommend Dr. White the house call vet. He has lots of experience, very reasonable, conservative in practice, and reliable.
