Hi all -- I'm seeking advice. I've never had to have a dog put down before, and I'm terribly sorry to say that I think it may be time for our dog. Does anyone have prior...
Linda H. replied:
Morgan Hill Animal Hospital is so kind. Tell them you want to come at the end of the day. Muster up your courage and do not let your critter know you are upset. Be there until the last breath, talking sweet words! It is something that most of us have had to do. When your baby is no longer enjoying life, it is something we owe them. You will be in my prayers!
Jackie V. replied:
San Martin Vet hospital is where my dog was put to rest. They were wonderful and very patient.
Lori J. replied:
I think Dr Rick/South County Animal Hospital may be closed this week. He facilitated my dog Trixie to doggie heaven when it was her time. It's a difficult process for us and our furry loves but it's the right thing to do when they are in pain. Thinking of you and sending hugs, prayers during this difficult, painful time Kate Weisbly. The process I experienced was described above
Sandy H. replied:
I would keep looking for a sympathetic vet. As others have said, it will be a painful experience for you and you will need a professional who can help you through it. We had to put our beloved cat down years ago. We used San Martin Animal Hospital (while Dr Pete was still there) the vet who helped our kitty cross the bridge wept right along with us as she told us exactly what was happening. It helped. Then she sent us a footprint in clay. Very sweet. My prayers are with you
Lily E. replied:
Dr. Laura E-Mash mobile Van. Shel'll even come to your own home. Call and chat with her 408-847-1122 or 408-682-9292
Lily E. replied:
She was one of the person, that would come over, then we had the other, you can look in the search on this site, rainbow bridge and see what comes up. I think we had Dr. Chad.
Jacqueline F. replied:
Dr Chad Alves offers in home services. Our beloved Australian Shepherd passed on surrounded by our family resting on his comfy bed. Chad is very kind and some of my friends have used his services with our recommendation. (408) 621-0289
Marcia K. replied:
I just had my old boy put down in the end of November at Gilroy Vet by Dr Martinez. The process is an injection of euthanasia solution (a very lethal dose of anesthesia) and they simple got to sleep and within seconds their organs and brain just shut down. It's a fast and almost painless (the injection is what could hurt, but it's a simple prick). I have had multiple dogs/cats done and had to do multiple at my old jobs of vet tech and animal control. It's a humane thing that we can do for our beloved fur babies. Good luck
Michawn G. replied:
Sorry Kate Weisbly! My vet I'd recommend but the office is closed this week. My Izzy was ready the worst part was getting a quick shave and the IV needle put in. When Dr Rick put the first med in, she already left me. He did the second one just to make sure. I held her the whole time, took her home and sat on the couch with her for a long time before Joe took her our aunts to be buried on the hill next to my previous cat Sarabi. Though it's sucks we are so lucky we can help them through this process, we can't say really say the much for humans!

Live Oak Vet Hospital - they have a beautiful room with carpeting and comfortable furniture for your family- feels like a family room. The staff was so sweet. There are poems on the wall that were very comforting. My sweet Stanley just slipped into a sleep.

Live Oak Vet is great! They give you a private room, not an exam room. I go to Dr. Clark there. I am sorry about your dog! Sending positive thoughts!:(
Nan H. replied:
So sorry it is never easy to make this decision. When my little Boo passed I was not going to go, I was just going to let my husband take care of it so I didn't have to feel the pain. I read something that said he has been your devoted pet for x years (14.5 for Boo) why can you be a grown up and be with him as he leaves this one. I went. It was calm and easy and I am so glad I was there to hold him as he passed on to the Rainbow bridge. Dr. Clark (live oak) was gentle with all of us...and made it a very meaningful moment...and gave us all the time we needed to say our goodbyes. All the best to you as you go through is difficult time.
Katie K. replied:
Also went through this recently and I second (or third) the recommendation of using Dr. Chad Alves' in home service. He was available on 24 hour notice, was incredibly compassionate, walked us through step by step and let us take as much time as we needed. We so appreciated being able to do this in our home with the entire family present. http://www.chadalvesdvm.com/index.html
Sorry if I am repeating anything anyone has posted above. So sorry. It is the hardest thing to do but please stay with your baby during the process it's the least we can do for them after all the years of devotion they give us. Rainbow Bridge will be blessed with another angel
Jamie M. replied:
My family took our Australian Shepherd to Orchard Valley Hospital. It is in Gilroy. They put our first Australian Shepherd to sleep. They are so open on Saturday from 9 am-12:30 pm. Sorry for your lost
Shannon M. replied:
I just went through this a few weeks ago with my 17.5 year old pup. It was the most difficult decision I've had to make but you have to do what is best for your pet. Although I love my vet, I did not want Hunter's last life event to be a trip to the scary vet's office. I wanted him to go in his own home surrounded by family including his "sister". I had Dr. Laura Richards-Simmons, mobile vet (eMASH 408-847-1122) come to our home. I found her to be very compassionate and patient with me as I was very distraught. A few weeks later I picked up the beautiful urn and paw print. I would highly recommend Dr. Laura.
Jennifer A. replied:
Caring Pet out of Santa Cruz took excellent care of our dogs remains / urn. I won't use anyone else.
Linda S. replied:
Dr. Rick was amazing with my cat.. between me crying and him explaining things.. he is awesome.
Thanks everyone. Dr Grace came out and did an exam and took a blood draw. He is not feeling well but he is not worse either. We will be checking him several times a hour to see any changes
Kathleen A. replied:
Love Dr. Grace!
Patti D. replied:
Norman is not improving but not dead either. Dr. Grace left a message for me that his red blood cells ARE consistent with red maple poisoning. Although that is not the type of trees we put in the burn pile, to separate the animals from the pile. We can't do that because norman won't move. So my place is the smoke spot you see to the north. I have called and text Dr. Grace but she must be out of service working, to see if there is anything we can do for Norm besides give him a smoke mask. Please respond or forward this message to anyone who has had experience with something like this to share their insight.
Dr Grace is out of coverage as am I at home most of the time. I am calling to find her back up vet to see if he needs to be administered an IV.

I use it for anxiety (thunder, shotguns, fireworks), and beginning stage arthritis. It really seems to help. I had my other dog on prescription meds for arthritis, and it was extremely hard on his kidneys, and I think contributed to an earlier passing, so I wanted to go a much more natural route this time. So far, so good. I bought my supply at www.cannapet.com.

I go to Morgan Hill Animal hospital. Dr Harika always does pre dental checks to make sure the animal can handle the procedure. My chihuahua ended up having some liver issues that could have caused complications and he said we needed to wait for it to clear. $10 supplements to fix. He could have easily gone ahead with the cleaning and made a lot more money, but he did the right thing for my dog.
