New to the area (Alabaster). Looking for great "hole in the wall" restaurants around the city. Thai food is my heart and I left a great little Thai place in Montgomery...

Hole in the wall places for other than Thai food Pizza: Nino's in Pelham for NY style. Tortugas in Hoover for Chicago style BBQ: Original Moe's BBQ in Hoover. The rib sandwich is not on the menu as they only occasionally have it. It's pretty good. Chinese: New China Town in Bluff Park Muffaletta: Mufaletta's in Bessemer (this guy is the Soup Nazi of sandwiches, do it according to his rules. His muffaletta's are as good as ones you'd get in New Orleans) Italian: Joe's Italian in Alabaster is good. They're a victim of their own success, though. They got very popular, and the food suffered a bit for it. Great desserts, though. Thai: Thai House at 22nd St and 7th Ave south is great. She used to be in Hoover, but moved into Southside. I miss being able to go to lunch there, and I don't care for Taste of Thailand as much. Panda Thai and Chinese in Alabaster is not the best, but their Pad Thai was okay. Vietnamese: Saigon Noodle House on Hwy 280 is great! They did hot pots last winter (which I never got to try). Hopefully they do them again this winter. What else is there?

There is a nice little place in Cahaba Heights called "Fitzgerald's Asshole." Great curry. SUPER spicy.

Well, the Surins are always good bets. Or maybe SPR in five points.

Taste of Thailand in hoover off lorna road. Thai Emerald on 280. Both are owned by the brothers who own Leks Railroad Thai in Montgomery.

I'm not the aficionado on Thai food, but if you also like Indian I recommend checking out [Mughal](http://mughalindiancuisine.com/) near Lee Branch on Highway 280. It's fairly new, and it's already my favorite (even though I still have love for Silvercoin and Sitar) If you like wings and oysters, [Jefferson's](http://www.jeffersonsrestaurant.com/hoover/) recently opened a location in the south end of Hoover closer to your neck of the woods.

If you live in Alabaster you should check out Joe's. It's an italian place that is pretty authentic. Joe is an older guy that will walk around and check on you periodically and might give you a funny story. Not sure about the Alabaster area but Thai House downtown is good. In Hoover there is Taste of Thailand.

The best hole in any wall is on 1 st Ave North (see what I did there?). As for Thai food, don't overlook Thai House on 22 nd St and 7 th Ave South.

I'm driving home from N.C. and feeling hungry for something other than fast food. Does anyone know a decent place to eat in Montgomery, AL? Not to far from the highway
