Where to Shop for an Engagement Ring Hi guys. I'm looking to propose to my girlfriend within the next few months, and I've begun looking around at several jewelry stores...

ETSY. I had a rough idea of what I wanted to get my wife, found a jeweler to make the exact thing I was imagining, all for under $100 (not gold, no diamond), the whole process took about a month.

You don't mention budget... I went to Alexis nihon and picked up something there.

I bought my fiancee's ring from James Allen. As part of my research, I plotted their [diamond price curves](https://www.diamondscreener.com/diamond-prices/) and calculated the cost-efficiency frontier to identify the best deals. Hopefully it helps maximize your budget.
Dajini replied:
I've always loved going to Ex Aurum in downtown Montreal. Gino sells engagement rings at wholesale and always tries to get you the best ring for the best price. You can give them a call, drop by, or browse their website at [exaurum.com](http://exaurum.com). I bought my wife her engagement ring there as well as a few other pieces. Good luck!

You can find some awesome vintage rings on Etsy. A friend of mine bought a ring at Birks for like 10 k and it's hideous compared to the one I got of etsy.

I bought both my wife's engagement ring and our wedding rings at Majesty on Square Phillips. The staff was great and the prices were fair. Their site is: http://www.majestydiamonds.com/

If you're looking for a good deal, try and find a small place that's having a sale. Maybe a liquidation or something. It helps to be able to know the approximate market value of the ring for comparison sake. If you're looking to spend a lot of money, go to a big place with a reputation and well-known name (like Birks).
tooz8 replied:
Any of the places in Philips Square. Most have wholesale prices and can work with different budgets. We went to a few places in 620 Cathcart. There are jewellers on every floor.

My wife and I got one made and saved thousands. She didn't want a real diamond so we had that going for us but you can find a ring maker to knock off something really nice for a fraction of what the big stupid names charge. My wife's ring would have cost $20K and I think we paid $3K. Obviously getting your ring will take some time and a few meetings with the ring maker but it's worth it for the savings (not to mention the added bonus of adding that little customization option). Unfortunately, the lady who did ours passed away so she's not available but if you look for one I'm sure you'll find someone.

Good day parents. I was wondering if any of you have seen gps devices like watches or chips to put in kids boots ect. My son is going away next weekend to a winter camp...
No child has ever been lost or wandered off at the Beaver or Scout Camp during winter weekend camp. It is located just before St. Jerome up north aut. 15, a hop, a skip and a jump from the top of Laval. The kids stay in converted connected cabooses donated by CN and CP and have such a great time running from car to car and landing up in their bunk bed car! They never wander off too far from their choochoo train accomodations!

Sandra, I have read all the replies and comments and I can tell you that some people have provided good input for you and others are misinformed. I am the Scouts Area Commissioner for the West Island and therefore responsible for all Scouting Groups in the Area. I can assure you that Scouts Canada has very good policies, screening and training for its volunteers. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to PM me and I would be pleased to answer any questions you may have. I was a Scout myself as a youth and I have been involved as a volunteer with Scouts in the West Island for more than 12 years. My own son was a Scout and I remember we had the same questions and concerns as any parents do at the beginning. It is normal as a parent. Scout activities are always open to parents to observe. Even better if you want to have fun and participate as a volunteer, we welcome volunteers and there is a registration, screening and training process to follow in order to become an active volunteer.
Where to buy an engagement ring? (Using a throwaway here as my girlfriend also uses reddit and knows my username)
I'm planning on proposing to my girlfriend of 5 years...
Holty12345 replied:
>every girl wants a "real" diamond ring That'll be because that one company with a pretty amazing ad campaign convinced everyone that you need a diamond ring for engagement. I Believe that same company controls like...90% of diamonds to make them grossly more expensive than what their actually worth. Don't know if this was ever proven to be true...might just be one hell of a good conspiracy theory. But thats my 2 p of advice before you fork out several thousands of pounds on one - instead of a lab made one.
Sir_Bantersaurus replied:
Good luck although as a heads up you've probably put enough identifying information in there that if she visits this sub she'll probably know.....
Absinthian replied:
How about finding a town with a few quality vintage jewellery shops, pick a nice hotel there, go out for a meal at a top quality restaurant and propose.
Tell your fiancée that you want to take her to choose a ring that she likes and visit afore mentioned jewellers.
That way she chooses a ring that she's guaranteed to like. Also, IMHO, vintage rings tend to be far more lovely than modern ones. Another bonus is that you won't pay the premium for a new diamond ring. Third bonus, you've had a weekend break that she'll remember forever and afterwards, you'll be known as a romantic sod by all her friends!
If the one she likes is slightly to small or big, it's very easy to get it resized.

Go to an antiques shop that does work at jewellery auctions. I have family who work in the industry who all say never to go to a high street retailer. Can buy lab made stuff there to
moonflower replied:
Why would it cost ''several thousand pounds'' to buy a synthetic diamond when a real one isn't even that much?
inYOUReye replied:
Consensus is that highstreet jewelers are a rip off. I'm literally in the same process as you, and so far I am leaning on a internet retailer, http://www.bluenile.co.uk. Seem to be less of a rip off for what you get and seem to have some nice rings! Good luck buddy!
Dwengo replied:
Cool idea, I know a jeweller in hatton Gardens that did a bespoke diamond ring for me at a normal high street price, she's a goldsmiths and works with all sorts of elements. It may be the case that you have to get the diamond from an industrial retailer. But if you explained to her why you are using an industrial diamond she will probably make you a bespoke clasp for it. I'll pm you the details in a bit. On my phone.
Dajini replied:
If she wants a lab grown diamond, then buy her that ... Don't listen to what sales people say, as they have their own objectives. Lab grown diamonds even test as real diamonds and no one would know, plus if you can save some $$$, why not. I'd ask a reputable jeweler about where to buy a lab grown diamond. You can email this jeweler [exaurum.com](http://exaurum.com) as I have dealt with them for several years and I trust them for honest advice. I hope that this helps you, and good luck!

If you want quality and something unique go look at some auctions. Thesaleroom.com covers the major ones and what you will get for the ££ is amazing plus with the spare cash that you would have spent, take it to a jeweler to polish and resize. That way you have something truly unique, excellent quality, not mass produced and no over the top high street pricing to pay for the glamorous shiny shop or their assistants. But that's my 2 p worth
