Diana K. replied:
I believe that it really depends on the individual child... For under 2's I believe that the best option is in home as the bonding/ connection & security is with one specific person & the in home carer can adapt their routine to fit in with yours so th ere is minimal disruption for the child ... Between 2 & 3.5 there's a change for the child which means that for some kids at this stage they need larger groups of similar age children - for other kids they don't need this till after 4 years old ... Sorry for being long winded but if you wanted to talk with someone who helps families work out what's best for their circumstances Annie Emerson Gower from Village Kids is amazing & looks after the placement of both in home & center based placement for them:) all the best
Sara D. replied:
In home care you are only allowed two under 2 s at anytime or if there's no under 2 s in care the ratio is 1 carer to 4 children. You also have more flexible hours to suit your needs. Plus your children get to have a home environment. If you decide in home care I would highly recommend www.atahome.co.nz
Sharon B. replied:
Once upon a time there were no childcare centres, as life was simpler and we seemed to need less household income to survive! Oh how things have changed. Back then you chose a trusted friend or family member to help out with the children on the odd occ asion. When I first started to look for childcare I looked everywhere.. I stayed at centres and observed, I visited in home carers... It took time to find the right fit ... Through this process, I found myself 8 years on, Still believing that a consistent carer that can be a parent when you can't be there is so important. A person that will hold them when they fall to comfort them, congratulate them when they learn something new or simply provide a 'normal' daily life experience of community or home adventures - for me will always feel best over four walls and several trusted adults in a bigger environment. I am pro-home base asked having worked in both centre and homebased environments... BUT for any parent making a choice over centre or Homebased care Talk to THOSE that will be the caregivers in a centre... As you have this choice of personally selecting a 'right' carer in the Homebased childcare options. Regardless of the provider or ECE service- There is that saying 'You are only as the people that represent your organisation.' Where I work that is the focus... (P.s I have the best employer ever- hands down she blows we away daily with her generosity and awesomeness) Care for the people that care for the children... They (Educators) are so important. If you love your job all those around you will feel it! ... When you find the right 'fit' after looking at options ... You will know who the right person to care for your child's is...
Chelsea B. replied:
Vicki Campion is fantastic and is in the Nsouth area!! Highly recommend.
Jess H. replied:
I prefer Centre based care due to the teachers having qualifications. Any Tom, Dick or Harry can be a home carer. And you never know what goes on behind closed doors. In centres there are multiple eyes on your child all day and the activities are 100% dedicated to your child. When my daughter was in home care she was taken to the supermarket, left to play alone while the carer did laundry/dishes/vacuuming, and her husband used to come home for lunch (distraction). Village Kids in Onekawa is fantastic! They provide food, nappies and have great staff:)
