Does anyone know of a peditrician who has experience with ARS in the New Orleans area or in any part of Louisiana, Texas or Mississippi?
Angela B. replied:
The only really good hospital I've found in the South that really knows about ARS is Emory University hospital in Atlanta. The pediatric opthamologist there that we saw was Dr. Lambert. The geneticist there is Dr. Suma Shankar. She was part of an in ... See More
Kimberly J. replied:
Although I would like to find someone closer than Atlanta, there is no drive or plane ride that is too far. We will go where ever we need to. The dr ophthalmologist we are seeing today is with Tulane University Hospital. We will reassess our ophthalmologist needs after today's visit. How did you get a definite ARS diagnosis? Genetic testing? Other means?
Angela B. replied:
The first doctor who recognized it as a syndrome, and not just glaucoma, was Dr. B. Christian Carter of The University of Virginia Medical Center. I don't think he works with children anymore but he was wonderful. There is genetic typing that you can ... See More
We see Dr. Freedman at Duke University in NC - probably too far for you, but you could email her (or any other ARS expert people can recommend) and ask her if she knows somebody in your area. People in the same field usually know each other. Dr. Freedman's email address is sharon.freedman@dm.duke.edu.
John I thought you knew I go to Dr Korcz, been going for years since you told me about her and she's great. Unfortunately I have some issues that I need to see an opthalmologist for ;)

I just go to the Lenscrafters at Esplanade mall & use Dr. DiLeo's office (I think I always see Dr. Richardson though?). My insurance always covers it all, and if you have to have your eyes dilated, at least you can wander the mall for awhile.

We have been in the New Orleans area for almost a year now and cannot find a doctor we like for our daughter. We were previously at Cleveland clinic and extremely happy...

I'm from Southeast Arkansas & have always used Little Rock Eye Clinic since I was 10 & now am 33. They now see my 2 kids. My long time doc is Charles Henry & my kids see Monica Dellimore & Lydia Lane. They are really great if you'd rather not travel that far.

I don't know whether he is still practicing or not. Our pediatric ophthalmologist moved to Texas years ago. He was the best back then. I do not know his more recent experience. His name is Dr. Eisenbaum.

Dr Lambert at Emory did Gavin's cataract extraction and IOL. They were excellent.

Any recommendations for a pediatric eye doctor in the Prairieville/ Baton Rouge area?
Sarah K. replied:
We see Dr. Bradley Black in BR. He did Anderson's eye surgery. His nephew is (I believe) Andrew Black in the same practice. I know several people who have used him and really like him. Ours is close to retiring I think (works fewer days), so I would go to Andrew.
Catherine A. replied:
We have seen Andrew Black and were very happy.
Sheila B. replied:
We used Dr Pamela Williams for Mallory's eye surgery. I believe she is in the same practice as Dr Black. We liked her.

I take Avery to Williamson Eye Center in Gonzales.

I go to Dr. Hendricks at NO Eye Specialists. He's an opthamologist - you'll get a prescription but I'm not sure I'd buy glasses there - small selection.
