Best alternatives to Temescal Alley Barber Shop? I really like the cuts I get at Temescal Alley Barbershop, but the wait times are horrendous. I don't care how good the...

i did temescal alley once when i was playing hooky for a day, and it was fine. i come in on a saturday, and get told i have a 45 minute wait time. i asked if i could make an appointment, he stared at me like i had two heads. i then said oh, no thanks, bye, and he stared at me like i had just grown a third head, like some ill-conceived sequel to "how to get ahead in advertising."
then i, like groovyaardvark, went to slick and dapper and had a good experience.
however, if fidi is convenient to you, i found this place to be the best:

super friendly, they do great shaves. it's old school because everyone who works there is old, none of this supercuts-with-wax-moustache-veneer nonsense we're seeing like with floyd's 99 barbershop or less-generous interpretations of places like temescal alley.

If you are into the hip thing then I can suggest www.slickanddapper.com on Grand ave in Oakland.

I found this place called Zhen Mei hair salon in SF Chinatown that will do a men's cut for $5. It looks kind of sketch going in their but honestly I can't justify paying any more than that when it looks just as good as a $20 cut IMO.

You guys know you can put your name in at Temescal Alley Barbershop, get a wait estimate, go do your grocery shopping or laundry or whatever and come back... right? I tried Slick & Dapper and was dissapointed. The two barbers in when I went were straight women w/ salon haircuts, and she cut my mustache so thin it made me look like I have an Amish beard.

Tom Shortman....yes. That's what I'm looking for. He hasn't shaved in a while, I'm looking to get a close shave and maybe I can do it with an electric razor. Believe it or not, straight razor shaves have been banned in South Carolina due to bloodborne pathogens. .. at least that's what I was told. Looking to get him "cleaned up" so he can start feeling better about himself
Tom S. replied:
Edward Patterson may want to look into this shop Virile BarberShop he is in Waldwick, you can get a nice hot towel shave and haircut. and maybe a nice glass of whiskey. haven't tried them as of yet but heard good things, think hes on Fredrick street in Waldwick (201) 444-4565

Well There is supercuts and some place in the Rockridge shopping center that are under $30.00 but I gotta recommend this place: http://www.charlesbladesbarberspa.com/ The place is awesome! You're looking at a $30 cut before tip. BUT they give you a beer that you can drink while getting your cut. So figure $5 bucks right there. Seriously its worth the $30.00. It's got a great feel, people hang out there, everyone is really nice. Frank gave me my haircut yesterday and damn does it look good.
