The risk of transmission is greater if the tick is engorged, or of it was removed improperly allowing the tick's contents to spill into the bite wound. High-risk bites are treated as follows (remember the possibility of co-infection!): 1) Adults: Oral therapy for 28 days. 2) Pregnancy: Amoxicillin 1000 mg q6 h for 6 weeks. Test for Babesia, Bartonella and Ehrlichia. If you do not know where to find one in your area, go to mdjunction.com join, the site, join the Lyme Disease group, follow the links to request an LLMD...read the directions so you will get the results as quickly as possible.

39 is highly lyme specific according to my son's llmd (i have band 39). google Dr Horowitz lyme bingo. I would say you should look further into this.

I'm assuming the child is fatigued and probably in pain and not interested in life much??? This looks positive for lyme. I'd take those results to a LYME LITERATE doctor. You can find one near you by going onto ilads.com and go under the tab contacts I think it is, complete info, and they will email you a list of LLMD in your area. The spirochete bacteria can be a few other things like syphilis but highly doubt it so don't believe any Bs doctor telling you it's not enough for lyme. Say I don't care what bacteria it is, it needs to be treated.

Yes! You definitely should but don't depend on tests alone. ILADS.org is a great place to get the important basics. Many of us use the lab Igenex. Where are you? Hopefully some one near you can help with finding a local Lyme literate physician. Many get multiple infections from the same tick or even multiple bites. Coinfections can be just as bad or worse than just Lyme.

Cory- it is also very common for doc's that treat these infections NOT to participate with insurance because insurance companies make it extraordinarily difficult for our doc's to treat us appropriately. I have to disagree on Mary Colpoys in Old Lyme. She was so mean to me & she made me cry because I didn't loose weight as quickly as she thought I should. I asked the front desk to have another doctor from the practice call me as I would not see Dr. Colpoys again, they did not call after two requests a week apart. I left after being a patient for quite some time. In my opinion, she has zero bedside manner. Dr. Satti at that same practice is wonderful. I usually don't express negative opinions, but I still feel bad about my experience with this doctor 3 years later!

I would go in and say you are having flu-like symptoms to get antibiotics! Chronic Lyme is nothing you want to mess around with.

Bulls eye rash is positive for Lyme, period. No test required. But, as you'll learn, the medical community is in denial of chronic Lyme. The questioning will sadly continue. Find a Lyme literate doctor, looks like connections above will get you there. While you're searching, look for one of the books to learn more. "How Can I Get Better?" By Dr. H or a Dr. B has a book out too. Can I just say it's beautiful to see a significant other fighting alongside the patient? So many relationships struggle when chronic illness enters the picture. Keep up the effort, health, and the man you know, is on the other side of the battle. You rock!
