don't underestimate the damage. Depending on the vehicle that hit you, and your vehicle it may actually be thousands of dollars of damage. When we lived in the US my parents were rear ended by an SUV (they drove a VW Passat wagon). The SUV had to be towed. Parents didn't see much damage, and their car still worked. Only after they got home and dad looked under did he see damage. Towed to a shop, $8000 in repairs and they got a vehicle appraisal after repairs - other insurance paid an additional $2500 in diminished value.
For a body/collision repair shop I recommend [https://www.assuredauto.ca/locations/concordia-ottawa-west-on](https://www.assuredauto.ca/locations/concordia-ottawa-west-on)
Friends have used these guys, and were pretty happy with the work they did after an accident.

You are entitled to take it to any body shop you want to, legally. You do not have to take it to one your insurance company recommends.
That said, it is usually quicker to have the repair done at one of their authorized shops are the appraisers there are verified by the insurance company and don’t require a staff appraiser from the insurance to come look over the vehicle after the estimate has been submitted (unless they’re doing an audit or suspect something suspicious on the estimate vs the claim damage report and photos).
Realistically, any of the big name body shops are all going to offer roughly the same workmanship and lifetime warranty on repairs.

There are 2 ways on proceeding with this place that has its own pros and cons.
Going to a preferred shop your insurance recommends or going to an independant shop that upholds values on repairing the car right.
The preferred shop will try to cut all corners possible to fix the car as cheaply as possible so they get as much profit as they can. They will also use cheap knock off parts (non certified by the manufacturer). The good part is that it contains a lifetime warranty for as long as you own the car so if anything they do goes to shit and you still own the car; its covered. Also if youre not satisfied with the job for any reason at all; they are obligated to fix it for you. Just DONT sign the contract and pay the deposit first. Ask for a walk around. Main things might be paint matching, shit quality paint job (swirls, fish eyes, orange peels etc) and glued on trim they broke but didn't want to tell you. By law they have to replace it but if you dont notice they will try to pull it off.
That being said. My buddy is a painter at Tony Graham Collision Centre in Bells Corners. He did a great job on replacing my cars door. The paint matches pretty well (I cant see a difference). Check and see if your insurance has them as a preferred shop.
I got screwed over at Turpin Collision. The botched my previous car and had to come back 10 times (no lie). Good thing I was exercising my right to "lifetime warranty". They even tried to make me sign a form that we were done after... I refused and told them to sue me. Never had an issue after.
Remember its your right to get your car fixed at the place of your choosing and you are also entitled to have you car restored to "pre accident condition" which means they can't force you to put aftermarket parts on. They will try to play games with you and "steer"\influence you to do things you don't want to do but just stand your ground.
I have a lot of experience in this. PM me if you have any other questions.

Go to at least three shops for estimates and make sure your insurance inspects the car. Just because it doesn’t look like there’s damage doesn’t mean it’s not a lot worse than you think
