i'm planning for next year at this time and have used Skyscanner.com and Rome2 rio.com. So far, it looks like I will fly to Dublin from Boston, (400-500) less than Paris or Madrid. They have flights to Santiago so I can buy a round trip, then I'll just train to Leon where I am starting. That works out the most economical, although a little time consuming on the way there. I have never been to Dublin, so what the heck. It will also give me a chance to leave luggage with Ivar in Santiago. I like easy…..

We started shoping for our airline tickets in the fall of 2014. Our Camino was to start in May 2015. All of the flights we could find on line were ranging from $1,100 to $1,200 round trip from Chicago to Madrid. In late December we found tickets for Turkish Airlines (GREAT SERVICE) for about $850 round trip. But we would need to fly from Chicago to Istanbul to Madrid with a 2.5 Hr layover in Istanbul going and an 8.5 Hr. layover on our return.

I just bought my tickets through Skyscanner.com great site where you can set flight dates and it will send you automatic alerts as often as you want. We are flying from LAX to Madrid in May and returning in late June of 2016. It's shows flights from different airlines to give you the best rate.

I fly in to Charles de Gaulle AP in Paris. You catch the train in the AP and have a scenic train ride through France. Easy connection in Bayonne to SJPP. Start looking for plan fairs around midnight during the week. That is where and when the travel agent gets them cheap then charges you more for the ticket. It is best to look for them about 90 days in advance, but never in the summer months nor any other time of the year during holidays.

I bought a round-trip airline ticket from my home in Wisconsin to Paris and with a return flight from Madrid. Returning from Madrid didn't cost any more than returning from Paris would have cost. I knew how long my trip was planned to take, and I allowed a few extra days at the end. I used trains to go from Paris to my starting point and from my ending point to Madrid. To learn everything, you need to know about train travel in Europe, use this web site. http://www.seat61.com/

Missy, I used Kayak.com to find the right flight. I flew into one city and out another. I flew from Los Angeles into Paris, took a train to Bayonne and then a bus to St. Jean. At the end, I took another train from Santiago to Madrid and then a flight home. I found booking my flight about 8 weeks out got me the best price.
