I wondered if I could ask a question? I'm researching Lap Band Surgery. Has anyone had this surgery? What is great about it but also what are the down...

I had bypass surgery back in 2002 I think but I had mine at Shands in Gainesville there was only one Dr here then and my sister said there was no way he was going to do my surgery she had hers done a year a year before me. I still have problems sometimes but nothing major, just if I eat to much or to fast it will not stay down. Some days I can eat all day long and next hardly nothing, other days I have to remind myself to eat because I just don't feel hungry. Sometimes I feel like I am starving and will 2 bites and be full. I saw Dr Lord for a hernia repair great Dr beside manner not so much. My Dr in Gainesville was Dr Hocking and I loved him. Dr Lord does charge you$500 for this small book they give you or they did. The obesity forum that was mentioned was very helpful. You might have to have a psych eval too. Somehow I got around all that but mine was a long time ago.

I have a lap band but I no longer recommend that people get them. When I got mine (7 years ago) it was very popular and not many studies had been completed. Now, they are finding that roughly half of people have to get them removed. Complications include port infections, tubing leaks, GERD that leads to Barret's esophagus, band slips, and erosions. I was 245 when I had the surgery and lost down to 140. I loved it but now mine is not functioning since I had a baby 2 years ago so now I'm looking at having it taken out and revising to something else. My doctor was Dr. Lord and he is amazing. I just think the bands are not made to last. If you're considering something but don't want a bypass I urge you to research the sleeve. They have been doing sleeves for a very long time with good results. You can pm me if you have any questions.
