we go by the calendar. Beethoven's bday is December. we listen to Beethoven everyday. Billy Joel's bday is May. we listen. for the elementary level, exposure is important. just listen. background music for extended period of time. we then can develop a "taste" for a particular music. we do the "calendar" method with artist, poets, authors, missionaries & actors. on a yearly rotation basis. you can add scientist, Nobel Prize winners, Caldecott winners, etc. for artist, I get 5.6 books of the artist from the library. just look. what do you like. not like. converse. enjoy!~

Yes! I teach piano from my home every afternoon, but I'm guessing you mean not for a business I also teach my daughters piano. Two great places to start would be Phonics 4 Piano and Adventus Inc. Another option would be to teach the recorder. It is fine to use a music teacher, but sometimes it's hard to afford that. Another option is to see if you can find a piano teacher willing to swap a lesson for some other service.

I love Mayron Cole for sheet music, and the accompanying cd is wonderful. There is also an app that is great.

Piano is the best instrument to learn on first - it also helps to learn how to read music. Teaching Little Fingers How To Play is a great book to start out with.
Terri H. replied:
I do. I highly recommend a graded program that goes from K-12 called Theory Time to go along with it. It is an outstanding way to teach them music theory. They work with simple workbooks learning notes and simple rhythms to start and professing through advanced college level skills in the upper grades.

Do you remember the ice cream window outside the cafeteria? Carnation Kids and Dreamsicles for 5 cents.
Marilyn B. replied:
Oh yes...I usually didn't have any money. Bought Red Hots and Ju Ju B's and loved those carnation kids too. There was a little store on 12 th St close to Osborn. Stopped all the time for a popcicle while walking home from North. Also went to Dairy Queen practically every day getting a pint for my dad. Back then the ice cream was really good...especially their chocolate chip ice cream.
Debra H. replied:
I remember a Mrs. Kramer. Don't remember what she did though. Trying to remember who the art teacher was. Mr. Wells was the music teacher when I attended. Loved him. Did they make y'all do the square dancing when you were there? Ah - torture...
Does anyone know anything about Alice Cummings, music teacher at Greenway?
Susan C. replied:
No, and I, too, remember her. What about Mr. Ruth from PVHS Elementary #2? Imagine he's "passed" by now. And Miss Celentano? She taught us Spanish in 4 th grade: la mesa=the table:-)
Teri R. replied:
Alice Cummings doesn't ring a bell to me. Did you ask any of the other Randall group. Did something happen to her or are you trying to get a hold of her. I don't have any of me yearbooks w/ me in Flagstaff so sorry I can't help you. Teri Randall-Marciano
