Just from lifelong personal experience with cats, I would say staying a friends house would be the best option if that friend has experience with cats. Even if it’s hiding under the bed for a night, it’s so much less stressful than the cat crate. Just from my experience. If the friend knows cats, they’ll understand and know how to act accordingly.

i board my extremely anxious cat at bradford hills pet hotel in wexford about 2-3 times a year. i can't say she loves it, but sometimes my husbands and i's work trips overlap. the staff are very friendly and make me feel comfortable taking her there http://www.bhpethotel.net/locations/pennsylvania/wexford-bradford-hills-pet-hotel/cat-boarding

I've used [rover.com](https://rover.com) to find people who will watch my dog for a day or two in their home so you might try that.

You can call your vet and ask too. Some vets will board for short periods of time. Also bonus of having someone that could safely give meds for anxiety if it got to be too stressful for the kitty.

cannot recommend highly enough the Meow Manor (lol) in New Stanton--a bit of a drive but worth it!!
