Asking for a friend....can anyone recommend a good endocrinologist in the Pittsburgh area?
Deborah M. replied:
Dr. Lubowsky does accept it. I highly recommend him. I lived in Sewickley and had no qualms about driving to Beaver to see him, and Dr. Goltz is right in Sewickley. I think you'll be very happy with Dr. Lubowsky, and he also has another doc working there with him.
Deborah M. replied:
Leslie Neugebauer Tramposch, I don't know who your doc is that recommended Goltz, but he was recommended to me by my pcp, and for the record, I switched pcp's at the same time I went to Dr. Lubowsky. My pcp was a nightmare also.
Laura W. replied:
Check out www.heritagevalley.org. There are three listed...one in Sewickley and two in Beaver. All are well-liked.
Brad A. replied:
Dr. Jan Johnston and Dr. Safar ... I just read and researched for one for my Mom ... they got the best reviews ... their office staff and them are one of the nicest! They are great ...
Deborah M. replied:
I used to go to Dr. Goltz, I would NEVER, and I repeat, NEVER EVER recommend him. I ended up in the hospital because of him. I switched endocronogists and now I go to Dr. Noah Lubowski down in Beaver. After my second bout in the hospital with thyroid related crap, Dr. Lubowski got me straightened out in 2 weeks, whereas I was going to Dr. Goltz for three years and he couldn't get it right.
Anneliese P. replied:
Dr. Christopher Coyne-With UPMC Mercy. His staff are great and they have an office in Mt. Lebanon
Michelle S. replied:
I agree with Deborah. Although Dr. Goltz is a very nice man, I too would never recommend him. He missed nodules on my thyroid that my PCP found shortly after I saw Dr. Goltz.
Deborah M. replied:
Michelle is right, Dr. Goltz is a nice man. Not so great doctor.
Leslie T. replied:
I am interested in this thread, my doctor recommended Dr. Goltz for thyroid issues, I have not yet set up an appointment, I don't have UPMC health, do any of the doctors recommended take Highmark?
Laura W. replied:
I know that Dr Lubowsky accepts Highmark. All doctors on the Heritage Valley site accept it. www.heritagevalley.org
Diane S. replied:
I see Dr. Goltz because I am diabetic and he has been excellent for that. I practice natural health and he is the only traditional medicine doctor I see. For diabetes treatment I highly recommend him. Guess it depends why your friend needs an Endocrinologist. I also know diabetes is his specialty. He used to work with the Joslin Institute.
Denise T. replied:
I really like this doctor. They are very thorough. Goltz, Gerald M. MD Heritage Valley Sewickley 701 Broad St. 4 th Floor, Pod C Sewickley, PA 15143 412.741.2552
Dr. Camille Buonocore, at St. Clair. She treats my parents and my patients !
Diane S. replied:
Love Dr. Gerald Goltz. Denise listed contact info above. He is great.
Deb R. replied:
I went to Dr Goltz when I had SEVERE gestational diabetes while pregnant. The man was a Godsend to me! My dad also now goes to him for his diabetes. He's managed to get a very stubborn Italian man to watch his diet and get his health under control!! No complaints from my family for Dr.Goltz!
Deborah M. replied:
Ok, it looks like Dr. Goltz is good with diabetes. However, if you have a thyroid problem, he is definitely NOT your man.
Linda V. replied:
My Mom and brother have seen Dr. McQuone. She is in Sewickley. The building is by the eat-n-park, They both see her for thyroid issues.
Deborah M. replied:
Dr. Noah Lubowsky. He fixed Dr. Goltz's mess.
Brad A. replied:
I'm telling you my Mom just saw Dr. Safar for her diabetes and her levels were lowered after a day ... I have seen Dr. Jan Johnston who is part of Upmc and she is amazing! Goodluck!
Andrea W. replied:
I highly recommend Dr. Swarna Varma. She's intense but very thorough. She has/had an office in Heidelburg.

Dr Janine Frank and Dr Dianne Zalenski. Both are in Cranberry.

I have no idea what he would do in this instance, but I love our family PCP, Dr. Raymond Gallon. He is with North Hills Internal Medicine by Outback. They are affiliated with AGH.

9 y/o daughter under care of endocrinologist for 3+ yrs; second implant for precocious puberty removed in July; bone age 12+ yrs; metformin 500 mg 1x/day for appetite...
Nina K. replied:
Take her to a functional MD and/or naturopath instead and go over the following info with them. Start on a gut healing diet such as GAPS diet (get the book), remove all gluten, dairy, soy and use only grassfed organic beef and chicken only and if you can't find it don't let her eat it. NO fast food, and look up other endocrine disrupting foods and avoid those. Get rid of all plastics and nonstick pans and cookware in your kitchen, replace with glass and stainless steel and wood (untreated woods). Plastics of all kinds cause serious endocrine disruptions. Try to go all organic with your food and stay away from packaged foods. If you go gluten free, use only organic and soy and corn and dairy free products (Manini's is good and the only "bread" I ever eat anymore). Start reading everything you can on "endocrine disruption". Here's a start for you- click on the links to read more and read actual studies on this listing- http://www.greenmedinfo.com/disease/endocrine-imbalances
Can anyone recommend an endocrinologist? I lost mine due to insurance plan changes.
Jen M. replied:
I go to one on the North Side and like her a lot. Dr. Miescuwicz (though I'm positive I totally spelled that wrong). Her main office is in McMurray, but she's on Federal a couple times a week:
Jen M. replied:
Center for Diabetes & Endocrine Health(724) 941-7490
Kat P. replied:
I like Dr. Leena Matthews at Partners in Nephrology and Endicrinology. I see her in Monroeville.
Tracy H. replied:
We also go to The Center for Diabetes & Endocrine Health (mcmurray office) - Dr. Peter Grandziowski.... My husband really likes him as a Dr and a sorta become a friend from it. Initially, 13 yrs ago, he went to another endocrinologist (name is on the tip of my tongue) & he was awful..
Lee R. replied:
My wife really liked Dr. Moturi at Allegheny General. She was super hard to get an appointment with, though.
Paul M. replied:
Khurana R C MD, 700 Washington Rd. Mt. Lebanon. An excellent Dr., but out of network, and requires payment up front. I don't know what he charges now, but he may require a glucose tolerance test and other blood work as part of his "new-patient exam."
Does anyone know of a good endocrinologist ? Local. Not in shadyside etc. preferably st Margaret's
Thomas H. replied:
Yeah...I see her for diabetes....Not sure of thyroid. but her number is 412-373-9250. She has two offices. I would recommend the Joslin center because they have so much to offer there above just seeing the dr.
Thomas H. replied:
I see Dr, Mathews ( Female Endocrinologist) at the Josilin center in Monroeville....She is awesome.
Heather G. replied:
Sachin Bahl - his main office is on Frankstown Road but he is in St. Margaret's two days a week - that is where I book my appointments.
Okay does anyone know a good endocrinologist in the cranberry Twp area that takes new patients reasonable soon? Thanks
Jessica J. replied:
I would be surprised if you can find someone who takes patients in "a reasonable amount of time". Unfortunately it seems any specialist takes months to get an appointment. But I do have a recommendation. Dr. Murray Gordon. He is at Allegheny General, and a little socially awkward, but SUPER smart and he will find ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that might be going on. He is extremely thorough I always feel like I have the best look into my health after I see him. The number there is 412- 359-3426 - It may or may not help to say that you had a referral from an existing patient. (if they ask my name it would still be under my maiden name- Schmatz.)
Carrie F. replied:
Dr. Parapally@McCandless Passavant is great, not sure about how soon though...if you want I can give you her #
Does anyone have a good endocrinologist they would recommend that's semi close to Gbg? I went to one out in Pittsburgh a few years ago but I wasn't impressed.
Jon W. replied:
My family has had great experiences with Dr Evron (sp?). He's tough to get in with, but there's a reason for that.
Unfortunately, there is a lot of resistance in the medical community to T3-containing therapies such as natural desiccated thyroid medication despite mounting evidence....
I am looking for the name of the woman Endocrinologist I was told is excellent. She's with UPMC in Pittsburgh. Any help in locating her name is greatly appreciated.
