Anyone know where to get an eye exam when you have no insurance.
James B. replied:
I've always gone to this place and they're awesome! Now, I cannot remember but they might not require insurance. https://www.hollinvisionsafety.com/about They're right on Lincoln Way in White Oak (near McKeesport) right before Fantastic Sam's in what looks like a small house on your left. You can call and ask to make sure. (412) 673-5353

You can try Lawrenceville Vision Center on Butler street. Good doctors and care there.

I like both Dr. William Smith and Dr. Evan Waxman at the UPMC Eye Centers. I saw Dr. Waxman last at UPMC Mercy sometime last year, but I don't know if he still works there or has other locations he visits. Dr. Smith is at the Eye and Ear Institute right next to Presby, and he's the bomb diggity. He's always super thorough with exams and care, and I like that he explains what he's doing or what he's looking for. I see him for both contacts and glasses and have a crazy fucked up prescription, and he always goes the extra mile doing extra tests (that he doesn't necessarily have to do) to make sure I have the best fit possible.

We had prism lenses and do vision therapy with Jacob. He just graduated to no more prisms last time we went about 6 mths ago! But we see Dr. Veronneau in Rainelle... He's great with Jacob and really explains everything really well. Good luck on your search and hope you have the same success we've had with Jacob!

Dr. Kenneth Cheng in Wexford. He was John's eye doctor and was excellent with him. Then, about two years ago, he took care of my eye problem (surgery).

We went to dr cheng. Kelly has a very weak eye. He wanted us to constantly patch her eye which is hard because they fall off and are uncomfortable. We saw no progress. Dr Hughes had us dilate her good eye with drops and she went from 20/80 to 20/30 in three months.
Maura R. replied:
Saw Dr. Cheng for Danny's lazy eye when he was 4. He patched for 6 mos and did well and didn't complain too much. Never heard of dilating the good eye...sounds like a good option.
Jill B. replied:
We love Dr. Cheng! He has almost completely fixed P's eye issue and she won't even need glasses anymore (soon)

Can anyone recommend a good optometrist, preferably on the east side of Pittsburgh?

East Suburban Ophthalmic Associates in Monroeville. Not Eyes on Regent Square. They missed something major with my husband and I find them to be pushy with add on services.
