so my friend called me earlier asking me to recommend a vet to declaw her cat.....i told her i couldn't in good conscience give her any advice on the subject....and she...

It may also be beneficial to educate your prospective landlord regarding feline behavior. Landlords may be unaware that by insisting tenants declaw, they may actually be creating the very problem they are trying to prevent. Another words, declawed cats can urinate in the space in an effort to mark territory and define space when their claws and toes are amputated...they may also do this because they associate pain with the act of digging and covering in the litterbox. We would be happy to speak to you or your landlord if you wish, toll free at 1-866-903-4772 or bret@cattressmattress.com. We have tons of solutions for ensuring feline family members will establish or redirect their scratch practice to "claws-on" surfaces alleviating any fears of property destruction that your landlord may have, http://cattressmattress.com

I agree with Jo ReBecca. If her cat is a service animal they may have to allow your friend to keep her, and intact. Get as much literature as you can printed out and send it to the landlord, the housing authority, and social services. They need to be made aware that she is a therapy animal and that declawing her could severely change her personality making it difficult for her to keep Cali and thereby affecting her daughters well-being. Your friend actually has a chance to make a big difference here. There are many sites to get great info from. As Dr. Hofve suggested, pawsneedclaws is a great site as well as Dr. Hofves site littlebigcat.com.

Hi ReBecca! It looks like your request yielded some great resources and potential contacts. Again, if you and/or your friend feel like a phone conversation or email exchange with the prospective landlord would be beneficial, you are welcome to have him or her contact me toll free at 1-866-903-4772 or thru email at bret@cattressmattress.com. Best to you both and Cali.
