Safelite just did mine a couple weeks ago and they were great. Used JN Phillips in the past and wasn't happy with the quality of their work (molding cracked and came off).

so, auto glass repair: recommendations? (it's the windshield, and it's a BIG crack.)
Laura A. replied:
Sorry to hear that...SafeLite Auto Glass; although anything larger than a dollar bill size will need a replacement, not a repair. Check your insurance too.

cars.com says just run the heat, but ... i guess not the defroster. i've always run the defroster and never had a windshield crack, so ...

If you decide it's safe enough to drive to Hyattsville, I found Auto Glass Outlet very friendly and they have excellent prices.
Bob R. replied:
Many cars, since 2004, have built in electrical wiring in the windshield to keep wipers from freezing when a defroster is turned on, whether the car is being driven or pre-warmed. Using an auto-starter to pre-warm, while against P.G. Co. law (and coul d get you a ticket) will not harm a windshield that it's built into at the factory. It's also why many replacement windshields cost about $300. because replacement windshields must be capable of accepting the wiring for the wipers and which is "invisible" until you actually take the original windshield off for replacement. It's also the same process behind rear view mirrors that: show direction (N, NE, etc), auto dim headlights behind you at night and act as garage door openers. If you have an auto-dimming mirror, the odds are very high that you have such a windshield and have invisible wiring at the windshield's base to prevent wiper freezing as well as additional defrosting power as well.

Yes, very much Barbara . They came to my house. Were a bit pricy but not anymore than the dealer and came the day I called. I could have probably found cheaper but it was COLD and they came the same day! They were referred to me by Jiffy Lube -- I stopped there when trying to find a place to get it fixed ASAP. http://www.safelite.com
Anyone know of a good place to get a windshield replaced? Ty!
Karri B. replied:
We used http://richardsonautoglass.com/ last time we needed a new windshield. They did fine.
Kenneth K. replied:
I've used an independent guy twice with great success. Comes to your location, and I have found to be at least $100 cheaper than any other place. Jon's Windshield Service - (972) 271-1061
Anybody know of a good (cheap) windshield repair service around the metro? Today I woke up a tree branch on my windshield, my car is old and I can only afford liability...
Goodmournin replied:
I have zero idea on how much they charge, but they allow you to run a quote. https://www.safelite.com/

KC auto glass, I'm pretty sure it's a one-man operation, he's fast, costs less than safelite and honest. I just had my windshield replaced, he quoted me $211, wound up being 190, because instead of charging me for a new seal, he used the old one telling me it was still good and there was no reason to put a new one in.

Still call your insurance. Similar happened to my wife. They won't make you make a claim but can get you a deeply discounted rate at a local place. This was with progressive and we paid 170 for a side window installed.
