$99 with Curtis Avary at Everything Garage Doors. The opener can range from $100-$150. Curtis is awesome. Don't buy a Genie. That was what I replaced and it was terrible quality and known issue among installers apparently.

I used Family Christian a couple of years ago...can't recommend them today due to the service technician tardiness and lack of communication. Richard from Richardson Garage Doors is scheduled to be here this afternoon (selected based on reviews feom NextDoor.com). I'll follow up about my experience when he's finished.

Award Garage Door has been really good. I had the same problem. Mike Ward fixed it. Also checks everything. He usually finds a way to discount service ( new customer, Richardson resident, etc.). 468-522-9160

Call Mike Ward with Award Garage Doors - he is in Richardson, I found him on the BBB and he replaced our garage door a few months ago.He did a good job, cleaned up after the job, and was quick. He also does repairs and I have referred him to another friend. He was able to give them tips to deal with their issue at no charge. His # is 469-552-9160.

My neighbor also recommended Mike Ward. I've been very pleased with Mike...he knows immediately what is wrong and doesn't waste any time fixing it.

Ok the guy from The Good Guys garage door company just left. Very nice guy, had brochures and explained everything I asked about. The three main residential doors range from $765-1150 depending in R value. My garage faces west and so I am getting the highest R and its insulated which I had on my last house and it was very worth the extra money. Liftmaster for the opener, lots of different kinds, current special on one of them with a lot of high tech gizmos in it which I'm a nerd girl over, so I'm going with that one, $450 with the door installation, $485 on its own. But they have a lot that are much less expensive too. No pressure, told me to call back when I wanted to and gave me the open days left this week for installation including Saturday.
Anyone have a recommendation for a new garage door? Also - if anyone is interested in recycling my original wood door that swings up - let me know. thanks.
