Locksmith recommendation (or suggestion on lock question) We moved into a new house and there are a few knobs and deadbolts, and I was going to just replace them all but...

Where are you buying your gear? I got 8 knobs and 6 deadbolts for $110 at HD, all same key. Edit: Maybe it was 7 knobs and 6 deadbolts. I got three double-packs plus a single knob pack. HD helped me find the same key for the double-packs and rekeyed the single knob to the other six for free in store. I was very satisfied.

if you enjoy tinkering then re-pinning locks yourself is actually pretty easy. you just need some pins and a depth gauge to determine what size pin you need for each position, then its just a matter of taking it apart and putting it back together again. Depending on the lock brand you may or may not need a few special tools, but the cost of the tools and pins and everything is usually less than the cost of a single new doorknob.

I rekey both Kwikset and Schlage locks every day at my family's hardware store. West Side Manchester / Pville. $10 per lock knob or dead bolt and it comes with an extra key for each. Need a working key for Schlage but not Kwikset. Let me know if I can help.

Ops problem seems to be resolved, but I feel that I do have to give a shout out for a good friend in the area, H&H Locksmith Service. Troy is a hell of a good guy that is hell bent against fucking people over.

If I can't help you I send you to the guys at All Safe and Lock on South Main, also West Manch. More expensive, but they're locksmiths by trade.

Late and a bit outside, but had to share. If you REALLY want to keep someone out try the lock in this video. (LONG, but funny in the end. Start around 14 minute mark.) [UK Lock](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84USUh03KHY) Edit--Did the link wrong.

It looks like OP is all set, but anyone looking for a locksmith I can recommend Roche Locksmiths, I work with them all the time and they're always prompt and professional with a reasonable price.

If you don't mind the price but higher quality go to any local locksmith. HD and most hardware stores carry cheaply made locks that breaks easily and not as secure as higher quality brands. Also, speaking of security, use a 3" or longer screws for the strike plate which makes kicking in the door more difficult. Everyone no matter what kind of door should do this. It doesn't prevent it 100% but anything to slow down the would be burglars isn't a bad thing :)
Hi all! I’m looking for recommendations for a good, specialty locksmith in the area. The antique mortise lock on my front door finally went, and I’m hoping to find...
Holland W. replied:
I'm not sure what is broken with your mortise lock, but maybe it's fixable? I had a bunch of mortise handles and locks with missing springs and neither Historic Houseparts nor Rehouse Architectural Salvage could help figure out what springs were needed to fix them. Rehouse recommended I visit Advanced Lock and Safe on Norton Ave. and they were able to fix all 5 of my spring issues within an hour! Super nice guys, too. Charged me like $20 for all- highly recommend if that's an option in your situation!
Anyone know a locksmith or mechanic that can program a new transponder key for a 2004 Taurus? For a decent price? We have the transponder keys, and they've been cut, but...
Steve D. replied:
The layman's hack is to measure the resistance of your transponder, find one or multiple resistors in series to match at Radio Shack and bypass the circuit under the dash so you can use a regular key blank. Works for GM. Not sure about Fords.
