Looking for a good Arborist We have a couple large trees in our backyard that I'd like someone to come determine the health of and if they're worth saving. All I see...

Not sure if the Cornell Extension Cooperative would have any info on it but I'm looking for the same thing as I think I have a dying tree in my yard. A company doing construction knocked into it with an excavator and it knocked some bark off, but it might have been having issues beforehand based on what people on reddit said. Any idea what someone coming out to look at the tree would cost?
TonyNickels replied:
I've worked with Ted Collins Tree and Landscape before with some success. Their arborist was knowledgeable and prices were somewhat less than Birchcrest.

I used Birchcrest few years ago to prune and take down a ton of trees and was pleased with their service. The arborist guy seemed genuinely interested in the selectively pruning and cutting the trees and not just clear-cutting everything. This is in contrast to most other "arborists" I've gotten bids from who basically would take down as many trees as your budget allows.
This all said, Birchcrest can get spendy. I opted not to go for any of the various tree inoculations and I think the sales guy underbid our project so at the time it made good sense for me. I've found their prices have climbed substantially as of late based on more recent quotes I've obtained from them. They seem to get a lot of large municipal and utility contracts so I think demand for their services far exceeds supply.
