Anyone recommend a good doula training program in San Diego, or know of good resources on the subject? I can do my own research of course but want to ask my community...
Rachel R. replied:
I asked a doula friend and she said: She can go to the DONA (doulas of North America) site and search there, for starters. I'll also post on my DASC group (doulas of Southern CA) and see what I get. There are quite a few doulas there from SD. http://www.dona.org/ DONA International – Welcome! www.dona.org Her name is Jodie, I'll suggest you as friends!

I know of a woman who could help you find whatever info you're looking for. Her name is Sarah Bly and you can find her on FB. She is a good friend of my sister, Ang. If you don't want to contact her via FB I can ask Ang for her contact info.

Jennifer A. replied:
Hi Allison! It's been a couple of years since I've lived in NC, but I believe there is a homebirth midwifery practice in Asheville called New Dawn Midwifery. I don't personally know anyone who has had a birth with them, but I think you can search out some opinions on the mothering.com website. Good luck!
Lisa R. replied:
I've been gone from ATL for about 2 years now, but there is a VERY active and integrated Bradley Teacher network---go to Bradleybirth.com and search for a teacher---if you want a hospital birth--Margaret Strickhauser is the only one I can recommend---HTH
Allison M. replied:
Hey Jennifer, Unfortunately, I live quite a ways from Asheville. (I wish I didn't...it's beautiful up there!!) I've been to the NC Homebirth site (http://www.nchomebirth.com/art-choosingHB.html), and that's where I discovered midwives here won't get up with you until you're pregnant. There's a birthing center about an hour and a half away from me, but they aren't responding to emails.
Jennifer A. replied:
Hey Allison, That's too bad no midwife will talk to you yet. So much for "southern hospitality" lol. Have you tried contacting a doula? Maybe you could get some info. from a doula who works in your area. And if you have time, post your question on the mothering.com website. I'm amazed at how many knowledgable women belong to that site. Almost any question gets answered fast. Take care.
Annie R. replied:
Allison, if you are talking about the Birth Center in Chapel Hill, I HIGHLY recommend it! It's where I'm going. They are amazing!!!!! Give them a phone call at (919) 933 3301.
