Anyone recommend a GREAT vet? My fur babies are just that- my babies & really want to take them to a great vet. Anywhere in the 510/925 is good. We had a great vet but...

Tammy Valentine, Dr. Arnott that used to work at SLZ Vet? I thought he retired or moved away! ha
Leslie C. replied:
I would not recommend Dr. Halbach. When I took a seriously ill kitten to him some years ago, he kept insisting the kitten would be OK even as she lost half her body weight and became unresponsive. His words were, "Kittens are resilient; she'll be fine" even though she had stopped eating, drinking, and opening her eyes. He also refused to even try a treatment that was commonly used for her condition because he didn't think it would work. I wasn't willing to just sit there and watch her die so I went to another vet, who confirmed that she probably would have died within a day without sub-q fluids, force-feeding, an a stronger antibiotic. Even then it was touch-and-go, but I'm so glad I got a second opinion. It saved her life. Now I go to Feline Medical Center in Pleasanton. It's a distance, but if you have a cat and want a very experienced feline-only practitioner, it's the place to go.

I take my shepherds to San Lorenzo vets. Hesperian at Beckmann rd. I think there are good and not as high as other vets I have gone too.
Tammy V. replied:
I absolutely love Oak Tree Animal Hospital in San Ramon. I know it's not as convenient as a San Lorenzo vet, but it was worth making the change to me. Dr. Arnott does a fabulous job without gouging you with unnecessary charges. He has a common-sense approach to finding the best options. He is also one of the top Bay Area's top vets for aging animals. In addition to helping me with pretty common pet care, he helped me with an elderly dog with Canine Cognitive Dysfunction (severe dementia) and a cat with bone cancer.

I take mine to Chabot Veterinary and they are really caring and do a wonderful job keeping my cats healthy. After my cat had to be put down they sent me a sympathy card and a hand written note. I thought that was really nice and showed me they really love animals and their owners.
