Debbie H. replied:
Update on Jayden...I took Jayden to the vets on Tuesday of last week because she was not eating or drinking much and was just laying around, whichis very unlike her. I was told that her kidney levels were really bad. I was basically told that she would not last more then 3 days to 3 months and that one of my options was to put her down. I decided to get a second opinion and took her elsewhere the next day. They ran tests and her levels had improved a bit and seemed hopeful that we could treat whatever was happening to her kidneys and were appalled that putting her down was even an option given to me that quickly. We decided to start by giving her fluids. While examining her this vet felt a hard lump in her abdomen and we decided to do an x-ray, it showed a very large mass so we it was suggested that we make an appointment at the Critical Care Hospital in Portsmouth for an ultra sound to see if this was a tumor. We couldn't get an appointment till today because of the Holiday so we continued treating her by keeping her hydrated and started her on an antibiotic. Today we learned that the mass was not a tumor but the remnent of her right kidney. She has chronic End-stage Hydronephrosis in that kidney, which means that it is no longer functioning. Fortunately, Jayden only need one kidney to stay healthy. That kidney needs to remain at least 50% functional. She may need aggressive care which may mean several days of hospitalizationwhile we continue to treat the remaining kidney. We have used up our Care Credit already which is why I was asking if anyone knew of any other programs out there to help out with the cost. I do have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier that I can sell if anyone is interested. Thanks for your Prayers and Please keep them coming. They are very much appreciated.
Does anyone know of a vet that takes payments. I called a few today. Thanks
Donna P. replied:
Apply for Care Credit....it's a card you can use at the vets office (if they take it) most do . Then you can make payments to care credit. Sometimes you can even get no interest for 12 months.

Jenna D. replied:
I use the Alfred waterboro veterinarian hospital and love it there! Prior to going there I used the ridge (Springvale) and Great Brook (lebanon) Both of which I wouldn't use again! My dog was misdiagnosed at the Ridge and was treated for months with no results... The vets in Alfred have always gotten me in right away without charging me an arm and a leg. I would also recommend checking out AWS for spay/neutering of your pets. They offer discounts to fit your income.

Dr Chapin at Broadview in Rochester and Milton Vet Clinic. He works at both. We have used him at Broadview for 19 yrs. Very compasionate with his patients. Very thorough and explains everything in very simple terms.

Mike F. replied:
Kennebunk AWS is amazing. Not a fan of The Ridge at all. We now use dr. Julie Matthews at Village Vet in York. A bit of a ride, but they are amazing. They are treating my lab who has lymphoma. Holistic treatments instead of chemo. Saving us thousands and our dog is happy and really making good progress. Alive 3 weeks longer than The Ridge said she would be without chemo. Alive, happy, and healthy!
Caitlyn P. replied:
Some really nice people I started taking my pup to are the Ross corner animal wellness center, they are in Shapleigh. If your dogs are less than 50 lbs you can bring them to the animal welfare society spay/neuter clinic. Prices just sent up, it's $110 for males, used to be $120 for females, not sure what it is now because I didn't ask (we have a male). Rozzie May clinic in Conway nh also does inexpensive spay/neuter, prices vary by weight.
Caitlyn P. replied:
We used Post road vet in Wells, I don't recommend them. We have also used Acton Vet, nice people. I highly recommend you look up Ross Corner tho, they offer free nail clipping, free follow up sick pet visits!
Elaine S. replied:

I have a new kitty that needs to be fixed..whats the best vet???
Liz F. replied:
Mann Memorial Veterinarian Clinic on Rte 1, Kennebunk. Been there for years and they've always been great.
Phoebe B. replied:
If you qualify, I recommend Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk. It was $20 for our cat to be spayed and get a Rabies vx. I work full time and still qualified. As far as vet clinics go, Mann Memorial is the place to get the most bang for your buck. You don't have to sacrifice quality of care, and the prices there are less expensive than any other clinic in the area. We are very lucky around here to have some great veterinary hospitals/clinics. You may here a bad review about one, that others rave about. It's really all about personal preference and price, but all of the practices in the area will take good care of your pet. Good luck.
