I bring my Rocky to Newbury Animal Hospital. They have been taking care of him for 15 years he will be 16 next Month. I love them. They are not money hungry and when rocky has been sick they have called me on a Sunday just to find out how he's doing. They have given me advice over the phone to save me from an office visit as well. I've called them on a Saturday and have had me come in right away.
Gloria S. replied:
All vets are going to make suggestions.....good ones will treat you as a partner in care, discuss pros and cons of treatment and testing, and let you choose or decline. I have found this to be the case at Merrimac Valley Animal Hospital. I have had many cats with them and I feel that they listen and offer options but never push them on me. It would be interesting in this post to share what people are paying for various services at their vets such as office visit, labs, vaccines, etc. Vet services are expensive....it is very hard to get around that.

I would not recommend Amesbury Animal Hospital, i think they’re one way to your face and another behind your back. I was there visiting my cat during his stay at the hospital when I overheard the staff making fun of a woman for the amount of money she was spending monthly on medication for her horse. Last I knew the hospital and staff was there to help care for sick animals not make fun of their owners. They were quite shocked to realize I was there and even more shocked to know I overheard their whole conversation. That wasn’t my first negative experience there, but it was my last.

My suggestion with any vet UNLESS under emergency situation, ask ahead of time what test etc are being done that visit AND if 100% essential at that time and the cost before they do them. I learned that lesson after many years of bringing our Mastiff to other vet offices before we finally landed happily with Dr Baker. On another note I personally have never had a bad experience with Amesbury Hospital

Another vote for MVAH. I was a vet tech for many years and worked at a specialty referral hospital. I chose my local vet largely based on the type of referrals we received. MVAH consistently had done only what was needed, and nothing more. At times skipping things they knew we would need to redo for a variety of reasons (which they would only do to save the clients money). At the same time, they always did what was medically necessary. I never had that experience with any other local vets. Newbury Animal hospital was a close second, but chose MVAH because they are so close. I couldn't be happier there!

Yesterday, we were saved a procedure on the recommendation of my vet at Merrimack Valley Animal Hospital. Dr. O'Dell called to say that the condition of our dog's ears had improved so much over the last week, that she didn't think they needed to anesthetize her and do a complete flushing. Instead, they suggested they do an ear cleaning and put drops of a new antibiotic in her ears (which would last a month.) Thus, the estimated bill of $550 went DOWN to $179!

Not in town, but in Exeter NH. I use Dr Regina Downey Holistic Animal Healing Clinic. She treats our cats, dogs and horses. She is an amzing woman . She uses both traditional and holitic care for her patients, which ever she feels wis best in each situation. We right now are going through a terrible trauma with our 11 yr old fox terrier who slipped a disc. We had to rush in to an emergancy vet a few nights ago as she couldn't move and just kept yelping. They gave her pain killers, and steroids. Next day she was no better. I brought her to Dr Downey who added in Anti spasmodics and did a full body acupunture treatment. A little better for a few hours, but then back to yelping and barely able to stand. Today I brought her back in again and she did a new treatment Bicom. Skyler can now walk, sit and move her head a little. Best of all, no more yelping since the treatment. Dr Downey is an amazing human being who goes way above and beyond what I have ever seen any other vet do to help animals.

My older dog was on medication for urinary incontinence and she ran out of medication before her appointment. They would not refill the medication until she had the appointment. Said it was against the law for them to do so. But did not offer or have an earlier appointment and would not give me a couple of pills to cover her until the appointment. I was in tears in their waiting room begging for an appointment or a few pills to get by until then. Every time she had an accident she would cower and hide because she felt she did something wrong. Upon hearing my dilemma Amesbury Animal Hospital took me in immediately and got me the medication I needed and I never looked back.

Brushwood Vet is like no other place I've been. Everyone is so helpful, the doctors spend time answering and asking questions. It has been the best service I've been able to get for my pets in over 20 years. They also have the best prices around.
