What area would you like to stay in? I can give you some good reccomendations if I had a more specific area. If you are looking for a good hostel this place is pretty good: http://travel.cnn.com/seoul-youth-hostel-former-korean-cia-building

Was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago, and I stayed here with my girlfriend. It was fairly cheap, nice owner, and located in a good spot in hongdae. I would book in advance if you're going on a weekend, a lot of places were booked up. http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Seoulwise-Guesthouse/Seoul/42477

I found Hotel J-Hill to be reasonably cheap. Payed like $50 a night for great breakfast, a great corner-room with everything you need and a great view right in the centre of Myeongdong.

I stayed at a place in Hongdae called Oasis Guesthouse. The owner is the coolest dude I have ever met. Older guy, but super into punk rock and alternative things. He took me out for dinner and introduced me to tons of his friends. I miss staying there, to be honest. It was so comfortable!

My wife and some friends stayed [here](http://www.agoda.com/asia/south_korea/seoul/cozzzy_guesthouse.html?asq=), this weekend. They said the place was spotless, had great water pressure and plenty of heat in the showers, and the owners were very nice and accommodating. The guesthouse is in Hongdae, so you'll be close to the nightlife, shopping, etc. Enjoy your trip to Seoul!

Dustins Guesthouse is my favorite. The owner is awesome. He cooked for me, gave me alcohol, and was just generally a cool person. It's nice and clean and just opened.

Wait, whoa, Jinju? I live in the same city as you! Did you post a couple weeks ago on what's fun about Jinju? Or just a random expat that's living in Jinju? Haha. Anywho, hotels / motels really depend on the area. I've stayed in a couple on my stays in Seoul, but since I mainly do 2 day trips (first car up to Seoul, second / third last car down on the next day) and I'm young with no baggage, I prefer to stay in jimjilbangs. Showers are great to stay fresh, and it's *always* warm in there! You might get some stares if you're not in a part of Seoul that's totally accustomed to non-Koreans, though. Hotels got a little pricy for me as I go up to Seoul a lot... now, the couple of times when I had friends / girls over, *then* I stayed at motels. If you'd like the list of all 3 that I have stayed at, I'll try to hit them up when I'm in Seoul next.:) There's a *great* jimjilbang IMO near Seulleung station, which is a 10 minute walk from Samsung station (if you plan on visiting Hyundai Department store and COEX mall, which is right at Samsung station). The entire strip to Seulleung from Samsung is also one of Gangnam's entertainment entertainment districts. It's just one block over from the main huge road. I'll grab the name or a picture of the jimjilbang if you want when I go up to Seoul myself. ***ADVICE FROM A PERSON LIVING IN JINJU TO ANOTHER:*** I assume that you'll be staying near Line 2 or Line 3 because that's the closest 2 subway lines linked to the most popular entertainment districts overlaying Nambu bus terminal. Don't take the KTX to Seoul - it's 3 hours VS the 3.5 hours with an express bus, and the busses are generally way more comfortable. The KTX line is also doubly expensive. The only upside to the KTX is.. the 30 minute time, and direct connection to Seoul Central Subway line, I believe. Also, never take the last bus coming home to Jinju unless you've got no other option. These last busses are **hectic** at best, always full and always include a couple drunk people getting on the bus home. If you must, ***RESERVE*** or you will be stuck in Seoul for another night. Happened to me a week ago, in freezing weather. Not fun walking around when the subway lines are running their last cars. Also, Nambu bus terminal's card readers are finicky around 11:30PM onwards, so make sure to pack some cash (think it's 21, 000won off the top of my head). Also keep in mind busses after 9PM are more expensive, by around 2, 500 won or so. Over 6PM, you can only reserve online, while you can reserve over the phone before 6PM.

You're gonna want to stay in Hongdae. Itaewon is a little sketchy at night. Hongdae has the best nightlife in Korea, so it's where you'll probably be after the subways close anyway. The places that I have stayed: [Pencil](http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Hong-dae-Pencil-Guesthouse-and-Hostel/Seoul/49185?dateFrom=28+Dec+2012&dateTo=31+Dec+2012). It's a little far from the nightlife (20 minute walk) but it's clean and the people are friendly. [Come Inn](http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Come-Inn-Guesthouse/Seoul/46604?dateFrom=28+Dec+2012&dateTo=31+Dec+2012&sc_sau=rt&sc_pos=2). Perfect location, but it might be a little loud at night. Staff is great. [Miso Guesthouse](http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Miso-Guesthouse-and-Hostel/Seoul/48740?dateFrom=28+Dec+2012&dateTo=31+Dec+2012&sc_sau=rt&sc_pos=20). My favorite of the places I have stayed. Very small. Quiet. There are only about 12 beds in the entire place. The staff is just two young women who live there. It's a few minutes from the subway (and right next to the Airport Railroad station) and about 15 minutes walk to the nightlife.

I know it isn't what you asked for, but if you are alone or in a small group I would strongly recommend finding a jimjilbang. Cheap price, safe locker, and great hot tubs\sauna after you wake up. Sleeping isn't all that comfortable, but if you are coming in late and drunk anyway, it is well worth it.

I've stayed at [HEY Backpackers 2](http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/HEY-Backpackers-2-Hongdae/Seoul/51764) a lot of times. It's barebones but cheap. Very good location in the heart of Hongdae.

Check out airbnb.com for hostels and their prices. I stayed at Annyeong Guest House in Hongdae and it was pretty alright. They have a 2 bed room that was alright for my friend and I, up until the night where we came back somewhat sober and his snoring tortured me. If you want a slice of magic, near exit 2 on the Hongdae stop, there's a love motel with a glowing red neon sign above the door that reads "Motel". It's 40 k a night, but features a very interesting bathroom decor.

If jjimjilbangs aren't your jam, [Bebop Guesthouse](http://bebop-guesthouse.com/) in Hongdae is my favorite hostel. Heated electric blankets (you'll be thankful for this--Seoul is frakking cold right now), a kitchen in which to prepare breakfast, lockers for the protection of your things, and completely rad decor. Starts at $20/night for a dorm bed in a six-bed room.

Hotel? I stayed at this student-type housing (they're called 고시원(Goshiwon) or 고시텔(Goshitel)) that was next to 경희대 Kyung-Hee University for 25 days and it came out to about $200 USD. You need to speak Korean, though (I arranged through kakaotalk), so if you can't speak the hangookmal, no luck with that. Best deals will be, naturally, with Korean places. $1000 is plenty for housing costs...

I stayed in Korea summer 2015 for less than $500/month. Single room, private bathroom, tv, wifi, lock to door. Here a little secret: Go to airbnb and rent for a month. It will be cheaper than staying 18 days if you find the right place.
Anonymous replied:
Goshiwons are like 400 a month. Just book one and leave early
Anonymous replied:
Livingtels and goshiwons are cheap. They're basically one step above a hostel. I'm going to guess that you can get a low end room for about 25000 a day. 25000*23= 575000 won. Use the askjeeves.com and do some research. Also, check out the ol' craigslist. http://www.hostelworld.com/search?search_keywords=Seoul%2C+South+Korea&country=South-Korea&city=Seoul&date_from=2016-08-02&date_to=2016-08-05&sort=price

Hi all! Anyone been to Taiwan? Can you recommend hotels and places to visit please?
Moazim Q. replied:
I came back last week from Taiwan, I stayed in Star beauty Hotel, its a very good hotel and near to MRT station which has access to all famous attractions. you can visit Taipei 101, CSK Memorial Hall, Shilin Night Market which is fairly close to Hotel, get some cheap massage do shopping, eat lots of fruit. And if you could go out of city one and half hour, there is a place called Yehliu Geoparkt. Its just awesome.

Can anyone recommend a nice Hanok hostel/hotel in Seoul or Gyeonggi-do? Looking for a nice, picturesque hanok-ey place to stay a few nights on an upcoming trip.

[Uhbu's Guesthouse](http://www.booking.com/hotel/kr/uhbu-39-s-guest-house.html) in Dongdaemun-gu (nearest subway station is Jegi-dong on Line 1). It is a hanok-style guesthouse that is very cozy. I stayed here for two weeks in the summer and would definitely recommend it. The staff there speak some English, and most of the guests I met while there were Korean or Chinese. They were very welcoming - on my first night there they had a small welcome party for me and a few other guests with chicken and lots of soju, and then we went out to a noraebang afterwards.

I am living in Seoul at the moment and my parents just visited me last week. They stayed at Fraser Place Namdaemun. The location is quite good for the things that you have listed. The OGN E-stadium is only a couple of subway stops away and the T.um museum would be walking distance. As for shopping, it is really close to the popular shopping area called Myeongdong as well as a night market Namdaemun. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
