What's a good local vet? Willing to travel for a good one. We are getting a Great Dane in a few weeks and would like to have one set up for her :)

Kitsap Vet killed my cat too, they told me it was liver failure too....except his gums were healthy and pink. It was all about the money, with more tests and more tests. and they ruled out cancer and other terminal diseases. The next day he still wasn't eating or drinking and he had to have another test. I told them he had to be deydrated and they said well you will have to pay for another visit, it you want the dr. to check that.. so she pulled up his skin and said yep he is. So they hydrated him. They wanted to do a liver biopsy for 1200,00 but I had already spent 1000.00. I asked the doctor what will you do if it comes out positive and she said I'll give him antibiotics. And so I said well lets just do that then, He wasn't even eating or drinking...so I took it upon myself to syringe feed him. He got better and started eating on his own. He ran out of antibiotics and started to regress. I told them I could not afford more visits, but could they please give him more antibiotics because he was getting better while on them. They said the Dr, would return my call. She didn't so I called back a bunch of times. And she wouldn't return my calls. and this time he got really bad quickly. By the time she finally called 3 days later he was dead....so sad, he had been such a big strong cat...he weighed about 28 lbs when it started and was down to about 14 when he passed. If I had it to do all over again. I would have taken him to another vet...preferably Woodside or other reputable vet office sooner. He may have lived.

Tues, 10:24 pm - FYI Woodside wins with 15 positive comments, Purdy Vet has 7, Cedar Creek has 4, All Creatures has 4, Shelton has 3, Belltown has 3, Kitsap had 2 positive and 2 negative for a 0, Minter has 1, Good Neighbor (Dels) has 1, VCA in Silverdale has 1. Woodside here we come! Thanks everyone for a most interesting analysis. We all want caring vets with reasonable prices!

I have a cat that I used to take to Kitsap Vet who'd developed a uterine infection one weekend. The emergency vet I'd taken her to in silverdale told me she basically just needed to be spayed and she'd be ok. Called Kitsap Vet, they gave me a quote of $1600, and when I said I couldn't afford that, they said that that was the minimum price they could offer and if she didn't get it resolved immediately, she'd die. I took her to Tacoma Spay and Neuter and they took care of her for $115. I will never go back to Kitsap Vet again.

Purdy Vet. Hosp. is the best around here. My family has been going there for approx. 35 yrs.You MIGHT find cheaper but not much & it isn't worth the worries in care.

I have used every vet from Poulsbo to Shelton...I WILL NEVER GO ANYWHERE OTHER THAN SHELTON ANIMAL HOSPITAL 360-426-2616 !!!! you can't beat their prices. my father in law took his dog to the vet they have used for over a decade in P.O. to have a growth removed from her foot they quoted him over $1200 ..took the same dog to Shelton for the same growth...they charged him under $200
Carmen L. replied:
I will only take my dogs to Woodside Vet, Hos. located at Woods Rd and Mile Hill. I ask for Dr. Mike.
Rita M. replied:
Used to go to Woodside for years. Didn't like the new vets - followed Dr. Nancy to BELLTOWNE in Belfair. Adopted a dog in December husband wanted a closer vet so we switched to Cedar Creek.
Julie W. replied:
I love Dr. Mike Van Horn at Woodside Animal Hospital. He took great care of my old dog, who passed away, and has been fantastic with my new dog --who has epilepsy. He takes great personal interest in your pets, and has called me on more than 1 occasion to check on my animals. I have been going there for 10 + years, and have always been treated well.
Heidi G. replied:
Kitsap Vet killed my sister's cat. Go to Woodside. Very nice staff.
Kasey K. replied:
I use Woodside. You'll be hard pressed to find a vet that costs under $50 for a basic check up (don't know if any place does discounts for two animals at the same time), but Woodside hasn't ever done me wrong. I love Drs. Jenna and Keena. Dr. Mike is good too, but my dog doesn't like him so we opt for Dr. Jenna. Love her and she's so good with my scaredy pants pup.
Heidi G. replied:
Dr. Jenna is awesome!

Yes, Dr. Olsen in Shelton. He's wonderful, and very reasonable.
Margie B. replied:
Shelton Animal Hospital in Shelton. You can afford to take your rescues that are now family members there. I have heard Steamboat is a good Vet too. But affordability to care for our many with good doctors is what we need. Dr. Gary Olsen has been great for our pets. Belltowne Doctors are good too. But sometimes it's hard to get everyone seen there due to prices. So a couple of mine have been to Belltowne in the past.
Dennis C. replied:
How are their prices though. I really like the vet at Belltowne Veterinarian but they're pricier than what we were paying before moving here
