Plumber: Jerry Dominack, Dominack Mechanical Services. I trust him implicity. Vic at Riverside Electric or one of his sons. I used both at South Bend Heritage and my home and they are all good. Not cheap, but their work is quality and to me that is most important.
Need help with some landlord issues. I have had water leaking from my bathroom ceiling for a month at my apartment. Contacted management, maintenance came and cut a hole...
Dave W. replied:
Sounds like negligence Re: plumbing. Hope this helps: http://www.in.gov/isdh/files/Tenants_Rights_doc.pdf. Christina is absolutely spot on about documenting all relevant FACTS. Include dates and times, "on or about such and such a date, maintenance man (use names when possible) drilled hole in ceiling; two days later..." Like Sarah said, call 311 to see what recourse you have and inform them of situation that makes it a less than desirable place to live. Finally, and since you're asking, if your lease is ending soon, for your and your children's happiness and safety, ask yourself if living there is more burden than benefit. Our homes are places where we need to feel joy and safety. The place where you are doesn't sound like that sort of place...and it may take the city and professional advocates time to turn they place around. Good luck and God bless.

The important thing here is: document, document, document. Pictures, notes, written appointments and promises, et al. If Code gets involved, if you need at retain an attorney, if you decide to vacate and management tries to pursue you for rent, you will have evidence to support you. I agree: Call 311. Also, contact your Councilman (Oliver Davis) to add his voice on the "inside". If necessary, consult an attorney. Sometimes a terse letter from an attorney will scare management straight. I recommend John Broden.
Anybody got a favorite plumber in South Bend? My usual one can't come until Thursday or Friday at the earliest. Need a sewer line cleanout.
Carol B. replied:
FYI, Drain Surgeon can install too--they replace ALL my plumbing when I remodeled in 2006, and I've had them install sinks, toilets, faucets and water heaters in addition to the basic cleanouts.
Anyone know any affordable plumbers that could come out today for us? We.are.in. Need.
Pat B. replied:
We have used Don's Plumbing (574-250-7989) for all of our remodel needs since we moved here 7 years ago. He and his son Donnie are very respectful and a pleasure to have working in the house. We've been happy with all their work. Affordable? Don't know about that, but good.
