Anderson Animal Shelter. Many rescues in the area, some only use fosters and do not have a facility like Anderson, but it gets those dogs out of the crates and pens and away from the stress of a shelter.
Cheryl B. replied:
Tails Human Society also needs fosters. I know it is a little far from St. Charles (20-25 mins), but it is a great shelter and they do good work! http://www.tailshumanesociety.org/

Angels On Wheels, out of Naperville, is always looking for foster families. Visit their website: http://angelsonwheels.org/ and click on the fostering link!

I have gotten all of my three pugs through The Puppy Store in Saint Charles
NIPRA is AWESOME! We rescued two pugs from them. If they don't have any at the moment, you can still complete the application and they will update you. They are an amazing rescue group that is local!! For our latest pug, we drove to Kokomo, Indiana. That was a long drive but that group was amazing too. http://palsforpawsinc.com/
Carrie F. replied:
Anderson Animal Shelter has pugs on occasion, be patient and check the website--it's updated in real time once a dog is available for adoption. Also consider applying to become a foster family; you get to choose which dogs you foster and get first dibs on adopting your foster. www.andersonanimalshelter.org/foster

I'm a big fan of Rover Rescue in Aurora. roverrescue.org. Their dogs live in foster homes before you adopt them so you will be able to learn how they've been in a home setting. They have dogs of all ages. I'm meeting one on Friday that I hope to bring home :).

Hello! I am looking for an animal shelter and/or rescue in the area looking for volunteers. Dog walking, help at adoption events, etc.
Thank you for your suggestions!
Are there any local animal shelters in need of dog toys? We have too many after this Xmas and I don’t want to just throw them out!
Kristen Z. replied:
Safe Haven Dog Rescue. I foster dogs for them, I’d be happy to pick them up and take them to the Rescue for you if you would like. Otherwise, they have adoption events at Petco by Home Depot on Randall and Faybian every Saturday morning from 10-1. Thanks for thinking of the homeless dogs this holiday season!
